Losing inches vs. losing weight

I am restarting my weight loss again. Over year and a half ago I had lost 60 pounds and put it on since I have been in my relationship. My finacee and I are getting married in June and I am back on my journey to lose as much weight as possible and keeping it off for good and feeling great about myself again. I have been three weeks into my journey and loss 7 inches and one pound. Has anyone else been experiencing the same kind of thing? What kind of workout and food are you eating? How often are you working out? I am working out 5 times a week doing strength trainining and walking in the evenings. I have gotten better with my eating habits and eating small meals every few hours. Since I have changed my diet it's help with my PCO too. I feel frustrated I haven't loss any weight but I am happy I loss in inches. Any suggestions on how I can get the weight down.

Be happy with the inches. You could be replacing fat with muscle and if so the pounds will eventually come off. Pay more attention to how your clothes are fitting and dont worry about the scale. You will get there

Doubtful she'd be replacing much fat with muscle eating in a caloric deficit; it really doesn't work that way.

Mizzsami, inches are the best thing to be losing. Inches are what people see, not the number on your bathroom scale. Think about it... your wedding dress is also measured in inches, right? You're making the right progress.

Strength training while eating to lose weight has my weight going down more slowly as well. It's not unusual. The end results will be so much better than simply losing "weight" which means muscle loss as well as fat.

    Keep doing what you're doing.

Personally, I see inches as the main goal to lose and the number on the scale seems to follow that. Some weeks, I'll not lose any weight but when I measure myself, I'll be pleased to find out I've lost half an inch there and another inch somewhere else and it makes you realise you're still losing fat even if you aren't losing weight.

Inches is great! I recently began a new routine myself and was bummed that the scale is'nt going down.. But I must say that my clothes are so much bigger, I feel lighter and Love the comments that everyone makes about me losing weight.. Enjoy it!

Sounds like you're doing all the right things, well done on your progress so far! I don't even have a target weight, instead I have a target body fat %. I'm lifting weights and building a bit of muscle, so can't wait to find out what my actual weight settles on when I reach 15%

Be happy with the inches. You're not "replacing fat with muscle". It doesn't really work like that, especially with losing the 7 inches. Since you're only 3 weeks in, it's quite possible that you're body is still retaining water for muscle repair from the added workout regimine. This will normally last 2-4 weeks before your body adapts and the water flushes. That's were the scale can catch up with your losses.

Also, in a caloric deficit we lose water, fat, and muscle. With the strength training that you're doing, you're working to retain that muscle so you lose mainly water and fat. This can cause the scale to move slower as well. You're retaining muscle (and currently water) from your new workout. so mainly losing fat.

Keep measurements, IMHO they are much more accurate at tracking progress than the scale.

All of my loss happened like this. Inches lost over 3 weeks, then the scale would move, rinse, repeat. I just starting weighing monthly and measuring weekly. I'll take inches any day!

In my first month of a calorie deficit, strength training and cardio - I lost a total of 18 inches.
Okay, Okay - I was measuring literally EVERY THING! But 18 inches is 18 inches! ;)

I'm still steadily losing inches but it's averaging out at around 6 a month. I'm not losing ANY pounds now as I am in maintenance.

The scales will follow suit soon enough - but it's the inch loss that you are going to really notice. Keep up the fantastic work.
