Does any one use mass building protein shakes for weight gaining? I have gained 10lbs in just under a month

You mean protein powder or mass gainers? I use protein powder when I am short on protein for the day, but I don't like mass gainers. Mass gainers are usually protein powder with creamer added for fat, some simple carbs, and a bunch of other supplements that don't do much for you. Ok if you need some liquid calories to meet your calorie goals, but I would rather just drink some milk instead.

10 lbs in a month is pretty aggressive unless you are talking about most of it from glycogen loading during the first week.

Are you trying to say that you used protein powder (shakes) as mass gainers that helped you gain weight (10 pounds) in less than a month?

That is serious progress.. and pretty aggressive as mentioned...

Not even to mention, that gaining 10 lbs a month will either be additional glycogen stores from additional carbs, increase food waste in the gi track and fat. The body has limitations on muscle growth and it's about 1/2 -1 lb per week (most so on the lower end).

Sorry guys I meant I gained 10lbs in just over a month. 5 weeks and a few days since I began. I have upped my daily calories with help from this app. Most days I aim to go over. With the help of my mass gainer shake which provides 1000 calories alone. 40g of which is protein. 40g of fat. And the rest is carbs and sugars.

Mass gainers are fine to help get your calories up. I much prefer food, but in some cases (especially those people who are eating 4000+ calories a day) it can be helpful. But I would caution you about gaining 2lbs+ a week... it's mostly going to be fat...

Yh thanks. I have gathered that. But I have high metabolism and have always been on the slim side lol so any weight or fat I'm grateful for atm. I just want to get to 11 stone then I'd be happy

As much as you "just want to get to 11 stones", be careful how you go about doing so. Trust me! I was in the same boat on my last bulk. My goal was 195lbs..I had been a steady ~172-176LBS for 2+ years, and had the same mindset as you - idc just get me to 195. I shot up to 23%bf in no time... And it took me FOREVER to get back under where I started.. Trust me when I tell you that 7 months in a deficit is NOT FUN. The results were okay, but I would have much rather added more lean mass than fat mass because in the long run, i just lost out on a lot of time I could have used building muscle rather than shredding the excess fat.

Also, many people complain that mass gainers are very expensive for no reason. There are a few recipes for DIY mass gainers floating around this section. Most shakes include peanut butter, bananas, oats, protein powder, cocoa/chocolate or other flavoring, and ice cream. Obviously, if you don't like an ingredient, sub it out. And I think there are even a few recipes for just powdered ingredients if you have to make it on the run and don't have a blender around.

Also, you can add some calorie dense foods in non-shake form as well: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10142490/a-list-of-calorie-dense-foods

Do a lean bulk... somewhere between 10-15% above maintenance... A lot of people recommend 250 calories above maintenance... whatever the case, I would recommend you shoot for less than 1lb of mass per week.

Your averaging 2 lbs a week on 3000 calories.. wow you have a low TDEE. I will still say I prefer food.. I am on a cut at 2500 calories, so if you want more food ideas, you can look at my diary.

    Wow - That's a lot of sugar/carbs! Whatever works for you, I guess. ;)
