Calf strain?

On Friday I dropped something heavy on my foot. It hurt. I know I walked funny due to the pain and the lower part of my calf was tight the next day. Soleus I am thinking. Saturday I ran 10 and it felt good. Sunday I ran 5, calf was...tight but not terribly so. This morning, about 4.5 miles in, I could feel my calf tighten and I thought it was cramping when I felt a pretty significant pain. I limped home, and decided it was maybe something more than a cramp, maybe a strain. As the day went on, the pain lessened. Now, no swelling or bruising, just a little soreness but not much at all.

I have my first half marathon on Nov. 1. I will walk instead of running tomorrow regardless of how it feels. Thoughts? If it isn't painful, is it advisable to run? I run daily (miss maybe 1 day a month these days) so maybe just general overuse? I figure it is related to the foot injury and my altered gait.

Anyone had something similar with a good outcome?

I haven't but would advise you to listen to your body. Give it 2 days. Maybe walk on the second to see how it goes.

A short run? Sure. A marathon? That's risky.
