Anorexia recovery: am I bingeing?!

So I've started recovery a little over a week ago. I used to only eat around 200-500 calories per day and now in recovery I'm recommended 1200 per day for a couple weeks. Recently I have been craving and eating sweets and crappy food like crazy! I have experienced eating in the middle of the night and also now at night get extremely hungry for icecream and stuff like that. I'm not majorly going over calorie count ( maybe eating around 1500) but I'm getting really worried about becoming a binge eater, it makes me feel super gross and guilty

No. Bingeing is usually thousands of calories in one sitting. If you're really worried about it, speak with your recovery team.0

1200 is still an extremely low amount of calories. At your stage, I think any significant eating is going to likely make you feel this way for some time. Understand that you're doing it for the benefit of your health. I eat over 1200 calories per meal often... it's not binge eating, though it may feel like it. Eating sweets isn't something I would suggest all the time, however, because they will make you feel crappy eventually. The insulin spike and sugar crash that follows can cause this feeling.. Try eating more protein, and less sugary carbohydrates. That said, at your stage i think anything is better than 200-500 calories a day... keep trying! You're on the right path!

You are new to the 1200 calories.. There is going to be some things you go through while trying to eat more.
It is not rare for one to replace one ED with another ED... this is far more common than any one realizes. this is the addictive or compulsive behavior no matter if it not eating enough or too much..
We are not doctors here in the MFP community and nor would it be appropriate for us to advise or make a diagnosis in this case.
If you are seriously going to follow through with recovery, follow the doctors plan with the number of calories and not more or less until you see him/her again. They gave this to you for a reason... As for you feeling gross or guilty, perhaps you need to make the call to doc to let him know this..
edited to add: keep a diary of your days. Write things such as what happened, how you felt, etc.. you can use this to keep talking while you work through it. If you never look at the pages again, it is good to get out and at least to put down on paper. But your doc can help if you log and share it.0 -

I'm in recovery from atypical AN (late stages,yay!) and I've experienced this as well. I would not qualify this kind of eating as a binge because your body is still lacking vital nutrition and is using hunger cues to make you renourish itself. I used to have periods where I ate everything I could get my hands on (2000+ cals a night.) It probably won't turn itself into BED, so try not to fret over it. It's just that your body has been deprived for so long and so now it's trying to store energy up because your body thinks you are going to restrict again.
It probably won't turn into BED. It'll most likely be a short term thing, so don't fret. (:
(Sidenote: I am now eating about 1800 a day. I'm no longer seen by a doctor, but when I was with him, he recommended 2000-2500 calories a day, minnie-maud style)0 -
