Bulking on a keto diet is just not optimal, even if you time your carbs right. I have only met a few people who attempted it and their results were lagging compared to a traditional lean/clean bulk. Even they admit that they should have added far more carbs because it would have been easier with better results.
Personally, keto and bulk don't belong in the same sentence.0 -

When I first started bulking someone mentioned bulking on a keto diet and said there were some studies that were in the process of being published comparing a keto bulk to a traditional bulk. The results were said to be similar, but right before it was published the author retracted the study. I would be willing to withdraw my statement about it not being optimal if there are studies showing otherwise. I do suspect that carb timing would be more important when bulking on a ketogenic diet.0 -

This is a subject that I haven't bothered retaining much information on.
I know protein and carbs both create an insulin response in the body, which is vital to providing nutrients to the muscles while bulking. It also helps with blood vessel dilation, which is another important factor for muscle growth. Protein is a low GI food, meaning the signal to the body to release insulin is much slower than most traditional carbohydrate sources. Here's where the science went in one ear and out the other, but it had something to do with low glycogen being a signal to break down tissue for amino acids. Maybe if someone timed carbs as well as casein versus whey appropriately they would do fine.0 -

Some people report moderate success while on keto, but most of them are doing CKD or TKD instead of standard keto. In other words, the people that eat as many carbs as possible while still staying keto tend to get the best results.

I know people who do a lot of intense cardio can eat many more carbs than you would expect just prior to the workout and remain in ketosis. However, I don't know if that would hold true for lifting, but it might be something to experiment with. You could try carb "loading" just prior to a workout and then see if you remain in ketosis (apparently some people can just "tell", but they sell strips to test it and apparently some breathalizers pick up ketones as well).
I would think it would be difficult, but hopefully some people with experience will pipe in. I know this topic has been posted before, so there should be at least a few people that have attempted it.0 -
^Interested to hear from someone w/ experience.0

Just eat majority of carbs right after exercise, and keto be fine.0
