Abilify

My doctor just prescribed me abilify yesterday. I am already taking pristiq but am still having a hard time. I googled it and it says it is associated weight gain so I am terrified to take it. I am trying to lose, although not making much progress as it is.
I haven't filled the prescription yet and thinking about not taking it at all.
Has anyone lost weight while taking abilify? All I read about are how it causes weight gain.
Thanks

If your doctor has prescribed it, then they have already considered the side effects versus benefits and feel the benefits out weigh the risks/side effects.0 -
While I can't give you doctor's advice, I do think this is something you should mention to your doctor. Having suffered major depression after my brother died in 2005 and resorting to having to be on anti-depressants, I can attest to this being a time period where I gained a lot of weight. However, I'm not so sure it's from the meds alone since I also am an emotional eater and constantly had my hand in food. This is a conversation you really should have with your doctor to see if either (a) you can take something else that doesn't have weight gain or (b) you can try it for a short while and keep eating right/exercising to monitor your results. I wish you the best as you figure this out. I've never taken abilify but even if I did, I'd imagine it would be different for a lot of people since not everyone experiences all the side effects of medications.0

i have found that diet and exercise are important with antidepressants. there are many suppositions about why antidepressants lead to weight gain.
the most important thing i have found is to be aware of the difference between stomach hunger and brain hunger. i do my best to ignore brain hunger.
second, i find exercise helps me avoid overeating. i distract myself with a walk, run, time with the collie, etc0
