Make sure it measures in grams... I made that mistake. lol
Sure you can do the math but the grams listed gives me a greater piece of mind for accuracy0 -
(1) measures in both grams and ounces
(2) has a "tare" feature
(3) digital0 -

Yup. If it's easy to clean, it's also a plus (which reminds me that I need to clean my scale -you know you're using it a ton when it gets filthy shortly after cleaning it).0 -
Make sure you can read the display beneath what you're planning to put on it. I had one that was nearly impossible to read with anything larger than 3 inches in diameter on it.0

mine has a little removable tray that goes on top of the glass, so i can wash it in the dishwasher when it gets dirty.0 -
OXO is the best, but it's also the most expensive. They have one that weighs lower amounts and one that weighs bigger ones. If you plan to measure into heavy containers or weigh large amounts, like of something you made that will be portioned up, get the scale that weighs up to...I think it's fifty pounds. The higher-weight one.0

Unfortunately I think that's the one I bought. But I did read somewhere you can put a can or something under your plate so it's lifted enough to actually see the display. I need to try that because it drives me crazy.0 -

Thankfully, mine croaked so I was able to get one that is a bit better.0 -

The OXO scale can be read with a plate on it. The display pulls out and does so very easily. No acrobatics or squinting required to read the display!0 -
I have this one and it works great: amazon.com/gp/product/B000G2OTM2?keywords=polder%20food%20scale&qid=1445464456&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-20

Whatever you do, don't buy this: http://www.amazon.com/Ozeri-Professional-Digital-Kitchen-Tempered/dp/B003MSZBSI/
I have this and it works very well, but I have had to change the batteries at least three times since July; basically once a month. At $3 to $7 each change, it's not worth it when the scale itself is $20. I'm in the market for a new one.0 -

Unfortunately, I've bought battery packs from Amazon in the past and usually more than half of them are duds every time based on the seller. Thanks for the link, though. I ended up getting a big pack for just a bit more elsewhere after the last battery change. I had to run out and buy them for more money the first time because I didn't expect my scale battery to run out within a month after buying it. Then I hadn't bought new batteries because I figured the new ones would last a long time and their factory batteries must have been crap. Yet again, a month later, I'm weighing things and get the message about the battery and it shuts off. So I had to run to Target to get batteries again and this time I bought two packs which cost me $10. If you buy the batteries in bulk it helps, but I don't really think a sign of a great digital scale is having to change the battery every month. I know I weigh everything I eat, but sheesh. I know there are other digital scales that have a battery life of 1+ years that people love. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.0
