Hi all! I'm a female, 5'7, 247lbs (starting weight was 263) my bmr is somewhere around 1880 I believe. I have my profile set to lightly active which gives me about 1630 calories. I'm beginning to think I'm more sedentary. So if I set it to sedentary , it would give me some where around 1350 calories a day. Is it safe to go that far below my BMR?

Also, I exercise 3-5 days a week

The activity level refers to what you do during your normal daily life.

For example, if you have a desk job, you'd be sedentary.

    Yeah, exercise is separate.

Going below your BMR, in and of itself, isn't an issue.

In another thread, tomatoey describes it like this ...

Sedentary: Spend most of the day sitting (e.g. bank teller, desk job)

Lightly Active: Spend a good part of the day on your feet (e.g. teacher, salesman)

Active: Spend a good part of the day doing some physical activity (e.g. waitress, mailman)

Very Active: Spend most of the day doing heavy physical activity (e.g. bike messenger, carpenter)
  • OK, thank you!!

The sedentary setting is without exercise, so you'll get more calories if you log it. If you're in doubt, go with the sedentary one.

Eating under your BMR is considered a horror by some, but technically, clinically, there is no reason that you cannot.
