Hello. I am Sarah and a single mother of an almost 2 year old.

I weigh 2x what I did before pregnancy and would like to get back to my prepregnancy weight. My excess weight is starting to cause me heath problems (diabetes, hypoactive thyroid) and is starting to effect my relationship with my daughter (due to having NO energy).

I am not very active due to always being to tired to do anything. After my daily tasks are done I do not have the energy (and motivation) to do anything extra and I really need help with that.

I soley take care of my almost 2 year old so I do not get any alone time. That also effects what I can do.

I also suffer from extreme depression. Some of which is weight related. I'm at a loss. I have tried this before and given up because I have seen no improvement. This is my last hope.

I've been in your shoes almost exactly. It is an overwhelming place to start, but it is not impossible.

    1. Buy a food scale. Weigh everything and log accurately.
    2. Look into local gyms with a daycare. I found one for $30 per month after lots of looking. Go to the gym as soon as the daycare opens or if you work go on your lunch hour.
    3. Take it a day at a time. Get organized and learn to prioritize things like logging your food and taking walks.

I have looked and have found no local gyms with daycare. And I couldn't travel far as I don't have a car anyway.
I am looking into a scale but don't fully know what I'm looking for. Or how even to eat anymore. I'm an extreme comfort eater =(

Do you have a Walmart or a Target? There are fairly simple digital food scales there in the cooking section. The biggest loser ones usually have everything you need and instructions.

Do this for yourself and your baby girl. She needs you to be alive and healthy for her in the future. I just lost my younger brother b/c he didn't take care of himself. He was a single dad and his 11 year old son is absolutely devastated. Try cutting down on sugar and carbs and eat veggies, fruit and lean meats (chicken, tuna, etc.). Doesn't take a lot of money or even a car. If you can't get a scale, just use a tape measure after about 2-3 weeks and see where it takes you. I understand the single mom thing and would love to encourage and support you any way I can. You can do this. It's not easy but it will be worth it! Send me a friend request if you like. Take care!

did you go to doctor? If you have a thyroid problem, you can not change symptoms with life style change only. You should go to doctor first, and start medication.

    Hi Sarah,

I can relate to you having a rough time. I am trying to deal with what I believe to be Post Partum Depression without professional help. I am trying to address my issues naturally. It doesn't help that I am also trying to lose weight while taking care of my 8 month old (my husband is NEVER home because of his work). The first steps I have taken to address my weight issue is to cut out the soda and log calories on MFP to get an idea of what you have been eating. My only goal for this week had been to cut out soda and try to eat only when hungry. Ultimately my goal is to add additional small goals each week. So far, these small steps have been helping me, maybe this approach would be all you need to give you a jump start.

As a mom, I understand. You are not alone! Take care!

Honestly, if you have a scale...some halfway decent shoes and a stroller (not even a fancy one), start walking. That is cheap/free and gives you quality time with your girl. Bonus points if y'all walk together (and you push the stroller until she gets tired  ) Other than that, yes, pretty much what everyone else's told you: get a scale, weigh your items, log (accurately), and keep at it. You got this!

I am disabled with a few ailments! I find it quite hard to exercise but my great grandson keeps me going! He was 2 years old at the end of August. I have 4 grownup children, 25 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Started having health problems in 1986. I am on that much medication I am sure I rattle when I move! I ended up in hospital in February 2012 with a mild heart attack, have arthritis in nearly every joint, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat and a few more. My granddaughter puts Drew down for a nap after lunch and he sleeps for about an hour and a half to two hours! She gets her things done then plus he is at nursery every Monday and Friday from 8am till 5:30pm. See if you can look into something like that. She also works two days a week. :)
