Eat at MFP's maintenance calories. That will keep you close to the weight you are at and fuel your recovery.
BMR is too low, you could work out your TDEE at another site, but it is just as easy to set your MFP's goal to maintenance.

    Cheers, h.

Had my hip replaced June of last year. I wasn't on MFP then, but my main focus was getting good nutrition and plenty of protein. Your body has been through a trauma - not to make you queasy, but your bones have been sawed off, routed out, and had a steel spike driven in them. You've lost some blood and body fluids. Your quad or hamstring muscles have been pried apart. Your incision goes through several layers of tissue. You need some serious healing. If your leg feels like mine did (and my recovery went very well), you'll feel like you're dragging around a log for several days, so you will be exerting plenty of energy just getting around the house and doing some minor physical therapy. You may not sleep too well, especially once you wean off the pain meds, so your body will be under some stress. Now is not the time to skimp on what your body needs to recover.

I would advise eating at maintenance or even slightly above, and as healthy as you can for 6-8 weeks. Protein, fluids, healthy carbs, veggies & fruits, and a multivitamin, plus iron if your surgeon recommends it. And several snack-sized prunes for the first week or so to get you regular again.

Having said all that...my recovery went extremely well and I am so glad I had the surgery. I didn't gain any weight during recovery, and have since lost about 30 pounds without any problem. Best wishes with your new hip! BTW, a really helpful forum for hip & knee replacement is www.bonesmart.com

I've had arthroscopies on both hips. During the first couple months of recovery I didn't worry much about what I ate except that I tried to eat more protein than normal.

You need to fuel your body's recovery with food.
