Fast food

So if a calorie is just a calorie, we should be able to eat certain things occasionally that are not our healthiest choices, right? I have been craving a Mediterranean Veggie sandwich from Dominos. Looked up the nutrition info - it's manageable at 680 calories, but I know the fast food culprits and looked at sodium - sure enough, 2050 mg!! (And 260 of the calories are from fat.) So I think this isn't going to work into my food plan while I'm still in the weight loss phase!

If you don't have any medical issues, high sodium shouldn't be a problem. You'll likely see a jump in scale weight, but it will just be water and will fall off over the next few days.
The big thing will be if fast food is satiating for you. If the sandwich doesn't fill you up and you need something to go with it, it's harder to fit in. Another option would be to have half with a large salad or veggies as a side and save the rest for later. Warm sandwich reheat best in the oven.0 -
Perfectly ok to eat it. Just fit it into your calories for the day. This is a lifelong process and in order to keep the weight off we need to find what works for each of us. Fast food is no longer a daily occurrence for me, but I certainly indulge from time to time. One day, or one meal, is not going to make much of a difference. With the holidays approaching, this is something to keep in mind. The issue for me is not letting one choice or one meal become an ongoing problem.0

A calorie is a calorie as far as weight loss goes.
Some foods are better for us than others, though. From a health perspective, the foods aren't all the same. If you want a healthy diet, you're going to want to start reading the labels.
I would not exclude while dieting what I was planning to eat when I was done dieting. You should use this time to learn how to eat to keep the weight off, IMO. So, if you plan to eat that sandwich when you're done dieting, you should look into how to go about that now. IMO.
Figure out how many trans fats you're willing to eat. Sat fats, sodium, etc. if you're going to eat them when you're done losing, eat them now.
You don't want to lose all the weight and then slam it back on, KWIM?0 -
A high sodium day won't affect fat loss. Depending on how much sodium you have that day, you may see a jump in scale weight as your body retains water, but it'll level back out with a few days of lower sodium.
If you want something and you have room in your calories for it, go for it!

Appreciate your viewpoints. No, I never eat more than a single sandwich - no sides, no desserts - that's all I ever have room for. And yes, I can have half with a plain green salad one day and the other half the next day - that would work. Thanks so much for making it clear that this IS a lifestyle, not just a diet, and I can find ways to work things I have always enjoyed into my eating plan now and then.0
