Is this actually going to do anything for me?

I started doing a very light workout 4 days a week (friday-monday) and I was just wondering if it's actually going to do much for me. Monday-Friday I walk to class everyday and Friday-Monday I do things like squats, situps, and some free-weights. I feel good knowing that at least I'm doing something more than I would on a normal day but I feel like it's probably not actually benefiting me much. I know I'm not going to be like super toned or muscley from it but is it going to do anything??

Well that would depend on what your goals are.

A little bit of exercise is better then sitting on the couch.

It will benefit your health even if there are no visible results

Yeah, that was my first question. Without knowing what you're trying to achieve, it's impossible to say whether this is effective or not.

Well if you work with the goal of progressive overload then of course you will see multiple benefits and changes. If you plan to be lifting the same wait 6 months from now then probably not. Getting fit isn't easy, if you expect it too be you probably should stick to the couch haha. And you also need to bring your caloric intake into account. If you're eating at a surplus, you'll never see definition, if at a mild deficit you will slowly see definition appear. But like I said, if you want results, then work for them.

Yes, anything beyond normal will burn a few more cals and develop your muscles more than watching tv. But obviously it's not the same as a super aggressive program.

Doing something is always better than doing nothing. From there, how much of it you do and what exactly you are doing will dictate the results.

Effective or not, it's nice to be moving a little, right? I agree with thorsmom about figuring out your goals. Are you trying to lose weight? Are you maintaining and looking to lower your body fat percentage? There's a lot of help to be had on the forums, but you've got to know what you want to do first. Good luck and nice job making some small changes!

I'm in the "something is better than nothing" camp. Of corse it's healthier to move than to sit, to walk than to sit, and to do sit-ups and squats than to just sit. Keep it up, make exercising daily a habit, and in time you'll probably find something that you really like to do. If not, just do the types of things you posted above. Your body and mind will thank you!
