No energy drinks, no pop. Life is empty and devoid of meaning.

Not gonna make it.

Don't give up! I stopped drinking anything carbonated or with caffeine on January 19. The first few days were hard but now I don't miss it at all. About a month into it I tried a carbonated water and I didn't enjoy the burn I felt when it went down my throat. Now all I drink is plain water or add a little lemon to it. I drink about 22-26 cups a day.

I wish to god I could moderate but I'm all or nothing. Multiple energy drinks per day, multiple liters of soda. The hard part for me is the fact that I drink sugar free so I know I'm not piling a gazillion tons of calories and sugar into my diet so it's really hard for me to think of this as a big deal. I've quit here and there. My record is six months.

As a former smoker I know exactly how hard it is to give up something big in your life, and which you didn't realise until you tried giving up just how much of a hold it had on you. Ironically, now that I'm dieting I'm having a worse time doing without peanuts than I did ciggies! I guess I was in the mid-set to stop smoking, but I hadn't expected the nuts to be such a big issue. And there's the rub - you don't associate your fizzy drinks with anything wrong, so why give them up?

Here's a top tip from an ex-smoker: it's easier to give up when you still have a packet in the house than if you've run out. That way, you know in your head you could have one if you wanted, but you just don't want to! And you don't need to beat yourself up if you still have a puff now and then, because 5 cigs a day is better than 10, and 10 cigs a day is better than 20.

It's exactly the same with my peanuts, and it's the same for you and your drinks - one can a week is not a failure, it's a triumph! Make it an event, a treat. "Sunday is Pop Day, and that's perfectly alright. I've earned it."

Why do you want to give up pop? I could see it if you were drinking multiple litres of sugared pop ... that would be a lot of sugar. But why the diet pop?

For some reason I can't do that. There's something hardwired into my mind that has an all or nothing mentality. One is too many because a thousand's never enough. If I have one, I'm having three. Per day. Every day. It's not just this, I approach my hobbies the same way.

Cheers. You can do it! I gave up all pop (diet and regular) about 15 years ago. It was the first step for me. Then 14 years ago I gave up candy, pastries etc., It is now SUPER easy for me to not eat or drink that stuff. In fact, I find it kind of gross.

If giving up sodas is a goal of yours, stick with it, it's a good one

I gave it up all at once because I knew if I would give into one then it would be two and so on. I was drinking at least 10 Diet Cokes and up to 16 a day. I always thought that it was diet so what was the harm. How wrong--it is just as bad for you as the regular drinks. Keep going and you will break the habit!

I'm going on 7 months with no sodas... I use to drink only diet coke honking hey no Cala!!! But after some research and all I decided I need to step back and get it out of my life! I was on a week long vacation at a family wedding and told my family I am not having any sodas whatsoever on this trip!!! I did it only drinking water tea and almond milk,... I honestly was proud so I saw how long I could go without it and you know what!?! Today I don't even miss it!!! Score!!
