I know this has probably been asked before, but what's the general consensus on stuff like diet coke and weight loss? if you drink diet fizzy drinks but still maintain a calorie deficit will it hinder weight loss in any way?
thanks for the help

No it will not in and of itself - it contains (presumably) zero calories so it would not hinder weight loss.

that's what I thought... I've heard people say that it slows your metabolism or something. I guess that's just a rumour

There are lots of rumors about diet soda. Many of us here have lost weight while continuing to drink them.

Definitely a (false) rumor. Something with zero calories won't hinder weight loss.

First, let's define 'diet soda' as any drink that is sweetened with low to no calorie sweeteners (like sucralose, aspartame, acesulfame-potassium, etc.) in order to taste like regular (sugared) soda.

In short, there are no direct causative studies that show the use of artificial sweeteners slows your metabolism or promotes fat storage.
