Motivation When You Stall

After losing 37 lbs in 5 months, I've lost a whopping 5 in the last 2.5 months. A lot of that has to do with two summer vacations, a family emergency, and a health emergency that knocked me off my feet. In addition to working full time, having a toddler, and buying a fixer-upper house that is slowly sucking my soul dry. For each of these events I lapsed for a week and ate whatever whenever (reverting back to my EAT ALL THE THINGS habit), but got back on track fairly quickly.
This yo-yo of gaining and losing is not something I want to continue. I have another 30 lbs until I'm at my goal weight and I find myself slipping into thinking "A weekly binge once a month isn't so bad...it's not like you're gaining, and you are still 40 lbs less than where you started". I know that's bad thinking and I need to stop. Any ideas on how to get my brain on track?

My advice would be to continue to view your journey as just that - a journey.
And frankly, my reaction after reading all that you had going on the last couple months seems to be quite different. You seem to be taking it as "dang, I only lost 5 lbs in the last 2.5 months."
My reaction is "Wow, you had ALL that going on, and you STILL managed to lose 5 pounds!"
Today is a new day, and it's never too late to start back on the good habits you've learned early on.0 -

Yes, yes, yes. You had to have exercised a lot of self control to lose close to 40 lbs. So you do have it in you. 1 lb at a time and 1 meal at a time!0 -
My concern about these lapses is what they say for after you reach your goal weight. What are your strategies for maintaining then?0

Are you currently set to lose two pounds per week? If you are, I would set it to lose 1 or .5 per week during those times when you are stressed or not really feeling the whole weight loss thing. It ups your calories, yet you are still losing. Self control doesn't have to be all or nothing. Be adaptable and a little more forgiving of yourself.0
