training at a different elevation

OK, so I'm going camping for 10 days and I got the wild idea that I needed to do a 5K walk/run while I'm on the other side of the state. I walk, swim and ride bike regularly. For a fat girl I'm in fairly decent shape. However the longest run/walk I've ever done was 2 miles. Well, I'm being supported by my boyfriend who will be with me and my mom is encouraging me. My sister on the other hand laughed hysterically and said I was going to die. When I asked why, rather offended, she said because the elevation difference will make it a lot harder. I understand the air will be different, but Brett says he thinks I will be fine because I am in fairly decent shape and we will be over there for 6 days prior to the race. I plan on swimming(lake), hiking and biking while I'm gone too. Is there anything I should be doing differently to adjust to the difference in elevation? My hometowns elevation is approx. 2,000 feet above sea level and the race place elevation is 6,600.
Thanks in advance for the help!
