Water retention? How long ?

I recently just switched to maintainance mod after dropping 100 lbs. 4 days ago I started a body weight Training program and have gained 4 lbs I'm positive it is water weight, frustrating none the less. How long should I expect it to last?

You're body will always retain water... You have lost 100 pounds I would not concern myself with 4 pounds. The water retention varies on your diet and many physiological reasons. You could have weighed yourself at a different time that day and those 4 pounds may not have shown up. I suggest not weighing yourself so often. Obviously you have done a great job of losing weight but now in a maintenance phase it is going to change a little. Also, you may add muscle through your program which increases weight but not fat. It may be beneficial to start getting body composition assessments monthly to assess your body fat % and lean body mass.

Once you go into maintenance you will see ~3-8 lbs of glycogen weight come back. This will not go away but it is not fat and is a sign that your body is properly fueled. If you aren't yet at maintenance and this is just water retention from a new workout to should be gone in a week or two.

It depends on the intensity of the tissue damage, intrinsic inflammation response, and as RTP notes, glycogen loading, etc. but can go from a few days to a few weeks. It does get better over time.

Drink lots of water, helps with to reduce some of the retention as it is reverse osmosis driven.

I avoided water retention or maintenance weight gain by slowly upping my calories. I also go to the gym less frequently so my muscles can rest in between workouts.

Mine comes and goes, depending on how I add weight to the lifts. Mine doesn't really go away for any great length of time (unless I goof off on lifting for a while). I just pretend I gained muscle for those couple of lbs ;)

    This is it

Especially if you were on any sort of carb restricted diet.

I can gain 4 pounds of water after a Hard leg workout.

Water is the medium for sugar and the "rinse agent" for sore muscles.

    Don't worry.
