Powder Water Mixes

Hey guys, curious question here.

If I drink a glass of water with a little bit of Tang or Lemonade mix, is still one glass of water? Like does adding to the drink take away how well Im going to be hydrated on it? Im trying to include more water in my diet daily and cutting back on soda and anything with a crap ton of syrup in it.

Keeping macros, daily sugar intake and other basic information out of the picture, will one cup of water = one cup of water plus a table spoon of drink mix.

    It's water. Just make sure to log the mix you use if it has calories.

    Anything that's made with a cup of water is a cup of water as far as hydration goes. Soda, iced tea, hot tea, coffee, flavored water, fruit juice, whatever. Anything added to water doesn't change the fact that it's water and will hydrate you, and anybody who tells you otherwise has no idea what they're talking about and should be ignored. You also obtain water from many of the foods you eat, even though you don't realize/count/log it.

    Somebody will inevitably bring up the old myth that caffeine negates the hydration because it's a diuretic. While it is true that caffeine has diuretic properties, it's not anywhere near enough to offset the hydration you get from caffeinated drinks.

    This is true. Also beware the folks who say "Well that was a study bought and paid for by the coca-cola company!!!"

    Because there was a study bought and paid for by the coca-cola company that is posted on their website and everything. And there are also multiple peer-reviewed studies by not for profit we-aren't-in-the-business-of-making-you-think-its-okay-to-drink-soda-all-day places too that say the exact same thing.

    Frankly, I don't count caloric beverages in my water intake. But that's probably cause I don't track my water intake. I just drink whenever I'm thirsty and I probably exceed required amounts, cause I'm thirsty often.

    I would also caution you that things like Tang and Country Whatever lemonade are PACKED with sugar and thus calories, and you are almost certainly going to be hungry later if you waste your 1500 on those things. If you just can't bear plain water (I couldn't in the beginning either, no judgement), get some Mio or sugar-free (not because of the sugar, but because of the low or non-existent calories!) water flavor packets. Then you get the taste of a glass of Tang without paying for it when you can only have 1/4 of your dinner.

    ETA: It also helps that Tang will make your dentist despise you and Mio won't.

    Gatorade/powerade, while high in sugar and salt, are also great ways to hydrate ALONGSIDE plain water.
