Hi, girls:
Had a great week with my sister. She headed home this morning and I headed over to Jenny Craig to get my food for the week and to get back on track!
Hot, hot, hot here in Savannah, GA. My husband wanted to go to the pool, but couldn't talk either boy into going with him. Poor guy!
Back on track, boogaloo!

Hi all,
I made it through the week! I am still not 100% sure about my decision, but it is getting easier to accept. I heard again from my recruiter how super excited everyone at the new company is to have me coming on board, which was nice. I just need to figure out how to hang out with my one good friend on a semi-regular basis given that we won't see each other at work everyday (he has a family and not a lot of free time).
I saw my orthopedist on Thursday, and am now officially crabby about my ankle. He wants me to get fitted for new orthotics, but of course the appointment to get them is 2 weeks away and they take several weeks to come in, yada yada yada, and my half-marathon hopes are going out the window. I am leaning towards asking for a cortisone shot, which he mentioned as a "more aggressive" option, but then skipped right on to surgery. Really? Just to go in and "look" at things and make sure there's nothing else non-obvious going on, in which case maybe I could just start running through the pain/discomfort. :noway: I don't think so. So, since I'm pretty much out of PT appointments, I think I'm going to just get really diligent about the exercises, stretching, and icing over the next few weeks, and hope that maybe things start improving.
Glad you had such a nice time with your sister, Bobbie! V, only 10 days without activity? Awesome! I know what you mean about being in the percolating stage - good luck finding "monkey work" (I love it ) to move things along. Hope you're feeling better, MM. And go, Mary, go - enjoy your yoga!
Now, I have to decide between high-brow/dramatic and low-brow/silly entertainment options for the evening: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? or a fantasy-themed improv comedy night. The play is excellent, but I might rather go with silly.

CP: Hope you went with the Improv!! Never miss a chance to laugh!!

I agree with Bobbie - never miss a chance to laugh.
I have no response to your dance instructor, V.
So, yesterday, during savasana, after 6 hours of yoga, I was scanning my body trying to find a place that wouldn't hurt today. It's mostly legs and arms today. We didn't do much crazy - but it was a case of "making easy poses hard".
Today is three hours this morning, then get ready for the one in Boerne. I was told last night (there was a potluck), that the teacher is "interesting" - which is a terrible description of someone. What does that mean? Yoga teachers won't bad mouth each other, so it's really hard to figure it out.
See you guys later in the week!

So, I WAS "enjoying the quiet" yesterday. Then, it got a bit crazy here in Toronto yesterday (although I am still well north of most things). It trashed my plans for the evening, as they shut down public transit. I'm not sure if it made the US news, but we had, well, a spot of rioting yesterday. When I saw the riot police and the mounted officers facing down a crowd directly in front of where I was planning to spend my evening out on the news, I felt OK about staying in.:noway:
Anyways, I'm trying to formulate some fitness goals over my morning coffee. I sort of feel re-dedicated to reaching an "ultimate" goal by my next birthday. I actually signed up for a nutrition program my trainer recommends, that has an entirely different approach to eating. The quick way to describe it is that it designates all of the approved foods as "after a workout" or "anytime". So, I've been formulating some exercise goals to go along with it. So far, I've decided cardio six days a week (with one of those being an "active recovery" session) and resistance training (either weights, yoga or boxing) three times a week. This is pretty much what I've been doing, but if I slack, it's on the resistance and not the cardio, and I'm trying to flip that. I'm also trying to schedule another appointment with the S.O.D. (scale of doom) at my gym to see if I've dropped any body fat since my first measurement. I have lost five pounds, since then, which is good, but I want to see five pounds of what.
To that, my goal today is my crazy-hard zumba at noon, followed by some yoga stretching for my lower back and hips. I didn't get to a workout yesterday, as the massage was, well, brutal. The lady is very good at finding the origin of my painful areas. Sample: pain in my left hip, stemming from a spasm in my right lower back. (tah-dah! and yee-ouch.)

Rioting, V? Yikes!
Well, we tried to go to the improv, but it was sold out. So then we tried to go to the play, and it was sold out, too! So, we ended up just getting a snack (hummus & pita) at a nearby coffee shop and playing a few games of backgammon. Unfortunately, last night was the last improv show until next season (darn!), but we did manage to get tickets to this afternoon's show of WAoVW? - and, wow. I had seen the movie, and wasn't sure if a local repertory group could pull it off, but man, it was excellent (and emotionally brutal, if you know the play). Hung out with some friends and their kids this morning at the playground, and did my ankle exercises. Then the play, then an outdoor concert. Overall, a good day!
My goal for this week is to not have any desserts or sodas, drink my water, and do my ankle stretches/exercises/icing every day. It's going to be a while before I can get new orthotics, anyway, so I'm taking matters into my own hands and see if I can make any progress. I also want to actually show my face in the gym for the first time in forever - I'm hoping either the elliptical or bike will work for me. I haven't really gained any weight since I had to stop running (maybe a pound or two), but I know I've replaced some muscle with fat and definitely lost some cardiovascular fitness.
