Hey, so I'm trying to lose weight and get into shape. I've been keeping track of my calories for a weeks now and I've always stayed well under my limit, yet I've gained 5 pounds! Is this normal. I realise I may not get results immediately but I just wanted to know if anyone else had this.

How accurate is your logging? Also why are you staying way under your limit? Your goal should be to hit that goal number. Your calorie deficit is already built in. But one week is not enough time to really judge. Be sure your logging is accurate - meet your calorie goal and see how next week turns out. Give it a few weeks of this. Not everyone loses in week one.0

How are you measuring your food? A scale is a lot more accurate than measuring cups.
Are you eating back all of your exercise calories? Usually MFP and machines overestimate, so it's usually recommended to eat back 50-75% initially to see how your weight loss does.
Do your clothes fit better? Weight loss isn't linear, and sometimes the scale isn't the best judge of how you've been doing. You should open your diary for more tailored advice, however.0 -
Has it been a week or weeks? Sorry, it's hard to tell from your initial post. If it's only been a week, that it not nearly enough time. Patience is key! Generally you should give it about a month before you can decide whether what you're doing is working or not.0

You mention getting into shape? Have you started a new exercise routine? Intensifying you activity level can cause temporary water weight gain.0
