New scale.

My scale is dying so I got a Tanita scale/fat and water monitor. It just arrived this morning and I haven't had time to check it out. Any suggestions on transitioning to a new scale. What should I do about the discrepancy between scales? Is the body fat/water content accurate?

There shouldn't be much of a discrepancy unless your old scale was giving wildly inaccurate readings on its death bed.
Body fat measurment by scales depends on a lot of things. It measures fat by sending a pulse through your body so where you tend to carry the most fat (upper or lower body) can make a difference. I've also noticed that although mine shows water vs. fat, if I'm bloated it will impact the fat % a little.
I thought mine was pretty accurate because it showed a % very close to what my DEXA showed. But according to it I've dropped 6% BF since the DEXA. I don't think that is accurate since I've only lost about 30 lbs. Or it could just need new batteries.0 -
If you're worried about the discrepancies, use both for a week and note the difference (make sure you do it on the same piece of floor though). If they are 100g off or something, just straight transition after a day or two. If it's like 2 or 3kg difference maybe record the average for a week and then switch. It's really up to you and how much value you put on that number. I'd just change straight over, personally.0
