Cold All The Time

Over the past year I've roughly lost 10kgs and put some of it back on. But ever since I started losing weight I've been cold all the time. I could wear a hoodie, long sleeve top, singlet, jeans, boots and a scarf and I'd still be cold unless I had a heater blaring on me and then I'd sort of stay warm. And since I'm in the middle of winter, I don't want to be freezing my butt off all the time.

Am I cold all the time from the losing the weight or doing it in correctly or because I've lost fat (even though I think I look the same)

Everyone tells me just to put more clothes on but that defeats the purpose. I shouldn't have to wear heaps more layers just to stay warm nor use a heater all the time.

Ideas?

I've put most of it back on, but when I lost a bunch of weight, boy did I feel the cold! I always said I'd lost my layert of protective blubber!

I think it is from losing fat, so long as you are healthy otherwise. Fat does insulate us, and so losing it means your body has to adjust to having less "padding".

I'm with you. It's winter here, and I have 4 layers on- a merino singlet, a merino long sleeve top, a cotton jumper and a hoody. Merino isn't bulky- if you are in Australia, I purchased mine from Target.

Just be on the safe side have your thyroid checked. Intolerance to cold is one of the symptoms for Hypo anyway. By dieting and exercise you are adjusting with your metobolism which has a direct impact on your thyroid. i am not doctor or nurse but do have hyop thyroid issues

    Try living in Tasmania!
I've got a long-sleeve merino thermal undershirt and a light weight merino jumper. In between I wear a quick dry tee-shirt. And I usually wear a soft shell jacket over the top. I've also got a merino thermal pants that I put on under a quick dry trousers or jeans.
I get my merino from Smitten or Macpac.

    Calorie Conservation

If you quickly reduce your caloric intake, the body often responds negatively by going into conservation mode. As a result, instead of using stored calories to keep you warm as it would under normal circumstances, your body will start to ration them off for more vital needs.

    Slow Metabolism

Feeling chronically cold can also be a symptom of a slowed metabolism.

Good information. I think generally most people who feel cold all the time, probably aren't eating enough and/or aren't getting enough iron. After losing almost 90lbs I actually feel hotter most of the time if I'm honest.

Will check it out. Circulatory strikes a cord since my hands seem to get cold easier nowadays.

I too get cold easily, I'm not anemic, my blood sugar typically runs low normal as well as my blood pressure. I'm not low in testosterone (have quite a lot of it :))
I think some people just don't mix with the cold

I am constantly shivering. My nails often have a blueish-grey tint in the morning and once I fall really cold I will spend hours trying to warm up but it makes my muscles really tense! It's horrible!
