What would you recommend for someone with less than 20 lbs to lose? Is anything over 1 Lb too aggressive? Is .5 lbs most recommended? Why?

a decent rule of thumb is no more than 1% of your body weight per week.0

However, even if you're over 300 lb, you shouldn't lose more than about 3 lb per week or it can be hard on your organs (e.g. liver).
Below the 300 mark 1% is a good upper limit.0 -
O.5 to 1lb a week seems ideal

1 to 2 lbs per week is considered in the healthy range for most people. For me, if I set the goal too low, I would have lost motivation. Set it too high, and I would have set myself up to fail.
I lost 2 lbs a week for several weeks. Now I'm losing between .5 and 1 lb a week as I get near my goal weight.
I personally had 25 lbs to lose. I could go more, of course, but at my age, no thanks. I'll be happy camper to be in healthy bmi range and in the middle of the recommended weight scale.
It's really dependent upon your own mindset.0 -
Its because your body can only metabolize a certain amount of fat per day and its based on how much fat you have. Once you go over that, it starts breaking down muscles for energy instead. You don't want to sacrifice your muscle mass to lose weight. It's a bad idea.
The rates recommended are to help you lose mostly fat and preserve as much muscle mass as possible.0 -
.5 for sure. Be patient - it will come.0

I would suggest .5 to 1 pound per week. Pick one of those and see how you do. If you're uncomfortably hungry, eat a bit more. If you are fine and weight loss seems interminably slow, cut by another 50 or 100 calories. At a certain point it doesn't matter what a recommended loss rate or ideal loss rate is because it's you, as an individual, who has to live with it.0
