vipr bag hits - heavy bag - boxing - options?

Hi,
Twice a week I do HIIT as my cardio. Among other things, involves using a vipr (the weighted tubey things) and whacking it against a heavy boxing bag.
It is the most awesome thing in the world. It is so satisfying when it makes a really good smacking sound.
Anyway, I've started using 5 minutes of smacking the bag around as a cool down... but it got me wondering if boxing might also be a good option?
Can anyone suggest a good routine for a rookie?
Something short, but effective?
I'm a bit overwhelmed with choices, but this site has already been great when it comes with advice.
Thanks.
