I thought it would be fun to name our favorite dish and then provide alternative ingredients that we can switch out to make it healthier. I think it might give everyone good insight to the things they make at home!
For example: If my favorite dish was spaghetti and meatballs.
Spaghetti and meatballs!
How I can make it healthier:
*Use spaghetti squash for the pasta
*Use no sodium canned tomatoes, purée and spices instead of canned pasta sauce to eliminate all the sodium
*use ground turkey instead of ground beef
What is your favorite dish?
What can you do to make it healthier?

Muffins, replace most of the fat with 1/4 cup apple sauce and a tablespoon of oil.
I would add more garlic, onion, and pepper to that no sodium sauce, and grated carrot for extra fiber.
Protein puffed wheat squares. Add 1/2 scoop protein powder, and change the puffed wheat to puffed millet to make it gluten free. Corn syrup can be substituted with agave syrup or honey. Laughingly low in calories.
Pancakes, add wheat germ and use flax oil.0 -
Here's my healthier home-made version of those jars of curry sauce that might have high levels of added oil/fat and sugar, serves 2:
Half a green bell pepper
8 dried apricots
Half a can of chopped tomatoes
A tablespoon of tomato puree
Two teaspoons of a healthy oil - I use rapeseed oil
Two heaped teaspoons of garam masala (or any curry/spice combo you prefer to make as mild/hot as you like)
Seasoning
I use the small chopper-pot attachment on my hand blender to blitz the apricot halves, then the pepper and tomatoes, add in the other ingredients as I do this in two batches and pour into a jug ready to use.
About 10 mins before the rice is ready (put the rice on to cook before making this sauce) I stir-fry a selection of veg including the other half of the green pepper, add half a can of chickpeas or kidney beans, then pour over the sauce and gently heat through till piping hot.0
