What are you trying to use it for? Picking a routine? Counting sets/reps? Logging progress?

I don't know - I like to do the actual lifting myself.

    :ducks:

OK, seriously, though. Like McCloud asked - what, exactly, do you want the app to do for you? Also - what, exactly, are your goals? Defining your goals will help in determining a course of action for you.

Pretty much all of the above.

Goal wise, weight loss first, add strength, etc.

I use Fitocracy. It's the most user friendly I've found (used Jefit in the past, meh), but I could do without the social side of it.

The best information you'll find will be in books / ebooks. Not being a smart-*kitten* either about your question either. "Starting Strength", "Cube Method", "Strong 360", "Juggernaut 2.0", "Beyond 5/3/1" are all great strength training books. All you need is a small notebook to log your plan, then you can put your phone in a locker to not be disturbed or just use it for music.

Bodybuilding.com is great. Huge range of exercises and programs. Plus you can track all your work outs with it.

@its_go_time I've used JeFit before for just building my own lifting regimen, or imputing another one. I just started a "5/3/1" program and found an app that keeps track of all of the weight %'s for me and stuff. As far as logging the activities for inputting into MFP, I just use Runkeeper. I run and bike already and so it has an option for weights where you just put in the time performed and it will input it into MFP just like it does for my runs and rides. I haven't used it, but have heard others give good reviews for RepCount as well.

    There are many, many apps.
    • There's the generalist apps for weight training: Fitocracy, Jetfit, Fitness Buddy, Full Fitness...
    • There are specialist apps: Starting Strength, Stronglifts 5x5.
    • There are even more niche-specialist (5/3/1) apps: Wendler Log, Smolov Calc, Big Lifts.
    • There are CF apps: Pocket WOD, WOD GENIE...
    • There are weight/plate calculators: Wendler Calculator, Pound to KG....
I use two different apps to record my workouts which I won't go into reasons for here, but I use BigLifts 2 and Bodyspace.

And on that note, if you familiarize yourself with the Bodybuilding.com website and if you are confident enough not only can you create and design your own workouts, but plan your own programming.

Since bodybuilding.com had been brought up more than once, BodySpace is their app. JeFit is similar to BodySpace in what it is and how it operates. I personally use GymRat which no longer exists on the market. Gymme isn't too bad, Gymprovise is another not too bad app. FitFrame is yet another. Most of the better apps cost money. JeFit is different versions to it but started free. BodySpace is totally free. Both of them give you workouts from others for free and some that you can pay for. Anyway, there are some to look at.
