Japanese men are getting fatter while women are getting thinner.0 -
Having lived in Japan for a while, I'd say the increase in Western foods will definitely be making a change on their obesity levels in future years. It's "cool" to be American in many parts of Japan.
And re serving sizes: don't know if Americans know but your serving sizes are MASSIVE compared to Australia also. Stay on the fast food topic but our large size meal at maccas is your regular. We don't have anything bigger than that.
Cost of food is another factor and from everything I saw in the US, you guys have stupid cheap food. Japan is comparable to Australia. The price of rice is governed by the government I believe. Other stuff like fast food is a bit cheaper than Australia (including japanese style fast food), their veggies are a little bit more expensive, fruits also (but they are monstrous!) and I'd say their seafood is a lot cheaper than ours but our beef is a lot cheaper than theirs. Supply and demand obviously.0 -
@beekay70
Ha ha well said indeed that man
Congratulations on correctly pointing out the obvious flaw in my affected for the point of humour imitation of bigotry
I do hope it was taken as it was meant in a tongue in cheek way.
I thought my following post on Herbs and the letter H would have made that obvious but if any offence to anyone was caused my sincerest apologies
Deaths due to coronary disease are higher (however slight) in the UK than in the US. http://www.worldlifeexpectancy.com/cause-of-death/coronary-heart-disease/by-country/0 -
Because they walk or bike everywhere, exercise as a group before work/school, and because all the food is so stinking expensive!!! They smoke and drink like crazy though!!!

Maybe it's not pronouncing the H in Herbs
Most of the goodness of vegetables is in the skin perhaps there's a similar thing here in that the goodness of Herbs is in the H?
:laugh: Funniest post right here0 -
Because they do not eat gigantic portion sides that North Americans do. If you go to a Japanese restaurant ( a real one... not the chinese place around the corner with the deep fried shrimp) you will get served small portions. If you go to an American restaurant, your going to get served a HUGE plate full of pasta, deep fried stuff, etc.
They have just always had small portions and do not eat most of the greasy, fried foods that are so readily available to North Americans. Of course, there are obese people in Japan. But a MUCH smaller percentage that North America.
North America is a world-leader on obesity rates.
I agree! One of the biggest reasons for me losing weight is stop eating fast food and all those large portions. I can definitely see why other countries are able to be healthier.0
