I've been trying to lose weight for ages and just can't seem to do it. I eat healthier and exercise when I can. I've heard a lot of mixed opinions of diet pills and I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice?
Thank you!

My advice would be to steer clear of OTC diet pills.

All you'll lose with them is money. Eat at a calorie deficit.

If you're not losing, you're not in a deficit, so I would start there. Look to your logging.
As for pills, unless they're doctor prescribed and supervised, they are a bad idea! Mostly are just caffeine anyway, so drink some coffee or tea.

They're scams and are not regulated by the FDA (their claims do not need to be validated, and there's nobody monitoring to make sure what they're putting in those diet pills are safe). I think there was a young woman who died a few months ago due to an overdose on an OTC diet pill.

Honestly, those pills aren't worth your money (or your life).

    Skip the pills.

Calculate/estimate how many calories your body burns in an average day.

    Subtract 250-500 from that number

Eat that many calories per day, taking care to ensure you are accurately determining your caloric intake (weighing and logging all foods being an often recommended best practice)

    Get some exercise

    PROFIT!

Stay away from pills. there is not quick fit. Count and weigh all your foods, stay in your deficit and move more. Drink lots of water, it does help. Helps keep you full and hydrated and is very good for your skin.

Eating healthy needs to still include portion control. I'd steer clear of the pills, try some portion control AND healthy eating. Use the calorie counter on this myfitness pal for 2 months and see how it works. I've already lost 5 pounds and I've only been doing it for 2 weeks.

Thank you all so much! I didn't realize how dangerous they are, I'll definitely stay away. Thank you!!!

We're all different! I wouldn't use them because I'm cheap and don't like to spend my money on snake oil but the mental aspect of losing weight is a big one. It might be useful for some people to think they are useful. The plecebo effect is well documented and I could point you to many reputable and verifiable studies if you're interested. For what it's worth, I lost my 50 through accurate and honest logging and walking (mainly) but you're not me! Either way, good luck finding what will work for you!

That's a good call. A lot of those pills are unregulated and I'd be very very wary. If you have any questions on how to get started, this forum is where you'd ask  All the best!

Invest in a scale instead and weigh all your meals for a week. Find out how many calories you are really taking in. I am betting a scale will take you out of your stall.
