In the past year everything in the world has happened. I had a break up, changed jobs, moved out of state and gained 20 pounds in the process. I have recently joined the gym and love working out again. My main problem is getting my diet back on track!! Late night snacking is a huge problem for me!! It also does not help I live with my sister and her family are junk food junkies!! I really need a friend to help motivate me and keep me on track. If anyone would like to offer their advice or support....

I'm also a late night snacker, so I brush my teeth around ten o'clock, turn in my food diary for the day (this surprisingly helps me not to eat any more), and try to go to bed early. If you do get some type of craving, stick with something like carrot sticks so you can up your veggie intake, keep your sugars in check, and keep your calorie count low.
If for some reason you can't go to bed early, etc, then perhaps you should save calories from the beginning of the day or your snacks until the evening time.0 -
Evening to late-night are my danger zones as far as low willpower, self-control, and cravings. I've combatted that by eating lighter in the daytime that way I have more calories for dinner. If I really, really can't fight it, I'll have a bite of whatever I'm craving then go to bed early. Or I'll turn off the t.v.- those dang commercials get me (taco bell, pizza, whatever). You can add me if you like, I'm very active on here and am serious about my lifestyle change0

It is really hard not to snack at night for me too. My husband and I both have a spot for 100 calorie snacks like protein bars or pretzels, etc. so that when we want something to snack on - then we can have it without blowing the program for the day. His spot is in the drawer in his nightstand....I have a box in the laundry room.
Just remember: you are the captain of your journey, and they have no control over the direction you go or how fast/slow you get there. That means they can buy all the crappy food they want, but you don't have to eat it. If that's the path they choose to be on, fine and good for them - but don't let them and their bad habits derail you from getting you to where you want to be. This is an excuse for you to be selfish and do those things you know will get you there.0 -
That's tough. Feel free to friend me. That's great that you've gotten the workout on track. I have trouble with the snacking when I visit my parents. It's tough when you don't have sole control over the food in the house. It helps me sometimes to keep your hands (and mind!) busy. Just vegging out in front of the tv, I totally get munchies, but if I'm reading or actually doing something (crochet), it's less of a problem. I've also heard people talk about trying to substitute liquids. I do some of this too. Water of course is best, but if you like more taste, try Crystal light or Mio or other low calorie drinks? You may have tried a lot of this already, but you are not alone. Maybe do a forum search for snacking or even late night snacking. I know I've seen other threads on this topic so there may be more out there for you. Hang in there and don't let a midnight snack once in a while derail everything!0

For me it's out of sight out of mind. My husband love snacking and has always been a healthy weight.
He likes things like Smartfood and peanut butter filled pretzels.
If they are in the pantry they are out of sight. Meaning not piled up on the coffee table.
That seems to help.
I don't agree with the 100 calorie snacks and everything I've read indicates that people of healthy weights do not actually buy the 100 calorie packs. They are often a chemical stew. If you want pre portioned snacks I suggest the Graze weekly service for $5/week. So far they are not poor quality snacks and are not a chemical stew that I can tell.0 -
Thank you all so much!!0
