Weekend vs. Week Day

Can you try, say four weeks, where you eat on the weekend exactly as you do during the week. Perhaps it's your weekend consumption that is sabotaging your loss.... And weigh everything. My gf is on 21 day fix. Losing under a pound a week. I know why. Instead of weighing her portions, she stuffs her portion containers and wonders why I am losing consistently and without paying for a support program.

You need to be honest with yourself about exercise and food intake. It's you who loses and gains in this - no one else. As callous as that sounds.....

    Good luck! :)

Lovely suggestion Lynzdee. I agree - it's all about me. I was hoping to get some support, and I did get some... I'm choosing to ignore the shade and do what I have to do. :) Fortunately, I have high self-esteem and think I'm just adorable, with or without the extra weight. I will see what steps I can take to tighten things up as well as discuss with a new doctor. Have a great week!

I think you mentioned using a measuring cup. Do you weigh the contents?

There is a video somewhere around here showing the difference between using a measuring cup and spoons and using a scale to weigh things.

Might be part of the issue.

I do use a cup for rice only. Everything else I weigh. Having been sufficiently chastised for my error in judgement, I shall never do so again. Thank you to all for the enlightenment!

I have a similar cycle to you. Its really hard to stick to just 1200 calories on the weekend (or 1000 in your case). I have a desk job so I am lucky to hit 10,000 steps a day during the week. On the weekend that step count is 15,000-20,000 as I have 3 young kids and a big house to try to clean each weekend (I also do formal exercise Mon-Sat). I am on a program which stipulates 1200 cal and 60mins of exercise a day, however I also find my cal burns are higher than the suggested cal burn eg workout will suggest 350 and I might burn 500. It has my BMR at 1670 so add a 500 cal burn and some incidental exercise and I go over the 1000cal max recommended deficit.I have actually found that eating an average of 1400 cal produces the same result as 1200. I still try to stick to 1200 during the week but usually go up to 1800 on the weekend. I havent really seen a huge difference in loss I have lost 8kg over 8 weeks, 2kgs in the first 10 days and then it slowed a bit before picking back up when I allowed a little more food when I exercised heaps.

Looking at your cycle maybe its time to do a metabolism reset? Do you know how many calories you can eat to maintain? Perhaps you could try increasing calories for a week by 100 cal, then another 100 the next week. Keep weighing yourself and see where your weight stabilizes. Then you can look at what your deficit needs to be to lose.

I havent been using MFP exercise calories during my program, but over xmas my intention is to maintain only so I will be resetting my goal to maintain and eating back about 50%-75% of the exercise calories (which should be relatively accurate as I wear a fitbit heart rate monitor 24/7 but not quite sure I can eat back 100% and still maintain.

No one chastised you. You asked for help :)

  • It's not really a complaint to say that I was chastised. Sometimes we all need to be chastised. I didn't really appreciate the indication that I was a liar, but such is life. Have a lovely evening and thank you everyone for all of your suggestions. I will take every single thing to heart.

Oh I didn't see anyone say you were a liar! Of course you're not.

Also, I agree with the poster to spend a month keeping your intake the same on the weekends. If you're not logging accurately on the weekend, you could be going over more than you think. I'm currently in the process of doing the same thing because I used to bank calories for the weekend.

No one said you were lying. There are many ways in which logging can be inaccurate. That's not lying, that's simply a misunderstanding. Completely different thing. I agree with others that weighing and keeping consistent intake should do the trick. Rice can easily be over consumed. I can pack a lot of rice into a cup. Also make sure that if you are weighing it before cooking that the diary selection is also for uncooked. Another way in which logging can be inaccurate (incorrect entry, double check that the nutritional info is accurate there are a lot of incorrect entries in the database). Best of luck!

i am not really seeing where anyone is calling you a liar. seems people are just covering the common mistakes people make, in order to eliminate those.

like the most common mistake I see is people logging their food incorrectly, the other is logging their exercise incorrectly.

Since your not eating exercise calories back, assuming your activity level was set correctly it has to be in the food.

I think we have gone over all the common food logging issues, a few times for some of them  so i am not really sure what else there is to suggest.

  • Maybe I read this wrong, but doesn't this indicate I'm not being honest? Sorry if I am wrong.

"If OP were consuming 1000 calories she would be losing weight.

ETA: No one should aim for less than 1200 calories unless supervised by a doctor, but clearly OP is eating more than 1200 which is why I haven't really addressed that."

No. What people are saying is that it is EXTREMELY unlikely that you are consuming only 1000 cals a day and not losing weight. Especially if you arent eating back exercise calories, that means you are actually netting below 1000 cals. People are saying that it is far MORE likely that you are eating more than you think due to logging inaccuracies.

You have mentioned that your doctor put you on this calorie amount, what kind of Doctor? A GP? Or a registered dietitian?
  • Okay, thanks for clarification. A dietician, nutritionist, and GP worked together... but ya know, I've said all I can say multiple times. I will tighten things up. Thanks everyone.

For your rice - weigh your rice dry, then cooked, to see how much a serving really weighs. MFP's entries underestimate rice calories per gram too. But if you eat some every day and underestimate by 100 calories a day, that adds up too. Weigh your luna bars etc too... it's often heavier.

    Good luck.
