I joined the LDWA this year as well as a number of other walking groups.
I found it a great way of meeting folk and shedding the pounds too.

If, like me, you want to be fit but find the gym pretty boring you might consider the LWDA - they do some pretty awesome and tough events. There are also loads of easy walking groups on Meetup.com.

On Saturday I entered the 'Kilburn Kanter' a stomp around North Yorkshire's Hambleton Hills.
Here is my short blog report of this Saturday's Event

Kilburn Kanter : LDWA Challenge Event : 24 miles (fast paced walking)

I just have another 3 pounds now to get to my goal weight - down 2 stone nearly this year, and I really think the walking groups have helped me a great deal - not just the exercise but also getting out and meeting other people has been great.

I used to be a member. It was a great fun way to get out and meet people, as you point out. I might well join them again. Thanks for the reminder, I'll read your blog later. Well done, I did the Anglezark Amble earlier this year, it was tough as I'm still very overweight, but a thoroughly good day out, with tea and cake at various points along the way. I can recommend next years event.

    Hi there
I had a look at the event:

Looks great - I fancy that I think I will give it a go!
Only worry is snow in February.
    Than you
