Rest days

Hey I was just curious on rest days and how people use them. i try to go 4 on 3 off. I have heard people dont take rest days but that seems unhealthy for the muscles. Just curious on what peoples workout schedules are mostly.

I usually lift 4 days a week, different muscle group each day, so technically each muscle group gets a week of rest. I usually go on 20 mile bike rides 2 to three times a week too.

My focus is training for a 1/2 marathon at the moment, so I do Mon/Wed/Sat/Sun running (Monday and Wednesday are tempo or sprint intervals or hills, Saturday is my long run, and I do a short, slow recovery run on Sundays) and I strength train on Tues/Thurs (both compound/full body days.) I take Fridays off and Sunday if I think I need it.

I don't know what the recommendation is for strength sessions because I only do it as cross-training and only twice a week, but runners are told not to increase mileage over a certain amount per week - apart from that there doesn't seem to be much conventional wisdom on rest days.

I generally have 1-2 rest days at a time. I've switched back to lifting 3x/wk instead of 4 so I'm mostly alternating the three days with 3 days of walking or running (mostly walking.) And then one day of no purposeful exercise.

I'm a 3x/week full body workouts (MWF) so my "rest" days are usually active rest days. Walking and/or stretching. If your goal is muscle growth and/or strength gains, then rest/recovery are very important.

I train 5-6 days a week. My training is generally focused on one of the core lifts (squats/bench/deads), and depending on the training cycle, I may be training the same lift back to back days. It's taken some getting used to, but I have very definite training goals and coaches that I trust completely to keep me safe and lifting.

My rest days? Other than basic living activities, I do very little.

Im doing a body weight training course now where I work out hard for 2 days, do 2 days of yoga/recovery exercises, rinse and repeat.

Since mid-Feb, I have taken 3 days off.

However, I do mix it up. One day I might only walk for 30 min ... another day I might cycle 100 km.
