A calorie deficit and heavy lifting will get you better results

Nope, because that would be asinine for me to only consume 1400 calories a day. I have gone 3 days of 0 calorie intake though, that was fun.

I'm trying to find out if it's a good choice of exercise and if anyone has had good or bad experiences with it. Your the one who started talking about calories and I do eat as healthy as I can.

I just mentioned that heavy lifting coupled with sufficient protein intake, and a calorie deficit (which you're already adhering to) will get you better body composition results than insanity will. I'm not trying to dissuade you from doing insanity, just stating a fact.

I'd actually agree that a good strength training program + your deficit would be a more efficient, easier way to better body composition.

BUT, insanity will improve your fitness (cardiovascular health, endurance, VO2max) in a way that a deficit and lifting wont. I've done it and found it super intense, almost to excess. It was a bit too high-impact for me, but I have leg issues. Makes you incredibly fit, though. Also, its a great mental challenge that will push you past your comfort zone and improve willpower. You'll feel super accomplished afterwards.

OP, I don't know your stats or activity level, but I would guess that 1400 cals will be too little to sustain good recovery during insanity. You can give it a go, but watch out for signs of overtraining or injury.

As I work out the amount of my calories go but and I eat 1400 I can't make myself eat much more then But it's My second day and I need to go grocery shopping I'm also going to be my homemade protein bars. It was a really hard work out and it is hard on my ankle. I want to do the gym ans lift weights to but I think this will get me into shape

But she didn't say she was looking for body composition. What if she's looking for improvements to stamina, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness etc? Insanity will provide all that and more. And despite what some think it does incorporate some pretty intense body weight resistance training, and also includes a weight lifting video.

To the OP Insanity is a great program if you want the kind of results I mentioned. If you are looking to change body comp, increase strength etc then I'd recommend a heavy lifting program with some Insanity sprinkled in.

Hi, I am on day 16 of Insanity and loving it.

My goal is intially just to get my fitness and general wellbeing up and then to kick on with adding muscle mass to improve the physique.

As mentioned above, it is intense exercise and coupled with a good diet should give good results.

I am going to start incorporating some weight training when time allows from next week, but I am determined to complete the insanity program first and foremost.

Well I'm glad your liking it I just started and I'm going to try and stick with it I have 20 pounds to lose. I don't think I'll lose that in 2 months but I'm hoping it will be a good kick start

I did Insanity but found it too intense for me. The first month was fine but in the second month some of the workouts are over an hour long, 6 days a week, which was just too time consuming. The workouts do get a bit repetitive too and I got pretty bored with them by the end.
I also didn't change my diet when I was doing it (it was before I discovered MFP) and actually ate more because I felt like I'd earned it - so in the end I did not lose a single pound and my body composition didn't change at all BUT my fitness did improve massively so in that sense it was worth it.

Insanity uses body wieght movements so although you aren't using weights you are using your body as a wieght plus its cardio. If you like it then do it!

What is it with some people trying to push weight lifting down your throat like its the be all and end all!?!?!? NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO LIFT BLOODY WEIGHTS!

Insanity was the first program I did at the start of my weight loss. I lost 24lbs and got my fat% down to 15% also my overall health improved dramatically. The first month is fairly challenging but the 2nd month is intense to say the least. Stick with it and you'll see results.

I'm also an advocate of Max Out 30. IMHO its just as intense (if not more so) than Inansity and there is also a modifier if your not quite up to speed yet.

    Shaun.

Yes, you can achieve some amazing results with Insanity. After two months of Insanity, your body should be obviously transformed. It's true that this program is hard work. But, it's all about your goals. In the first week, you won't be able to do exercises as people from the Insanity video, not even close. But that's perfectly normal. Each and every next week you will notice incredible changes in your ability to do them. You can't even imagine what you can do with your body.

I'm on week 4, and I say it is worth it! I hear people get their best results once they get to the second month.

I talked to my assigned beachbody coach, and base on my stats. 178 pounds, 5'5 in height I get to eat about 1500-1600 calories on workouts days and 1300 on off days.

I burn around 380-550 calories a workout depending on the dvds.

    hope this helps.

I love insanity, I mix up the dvds on days when I just don't want to go to the gym, or when I need to 'shock' my body into a different routine. Shaun even says go at your own pace, you'll eventually get to the place where you can do more in the alloted time, I remember when I couldn't do more than 5 pushup in a row now I can bust out 15-20. It's an intense workout for sure.
