I imagine this might be helpful for people who are doing portion control, but not the CICO version. I mean, for me at least, I carefully measure and weigh everything I eat or drink, so by the time it even gets to the plate, I've already logged it anyway, so it wouldn't matter if the plate was the size of my head or my hand by that point. Heck, I eat eggs straight out of the pan in the morning, why create a dish to wash?

It's interesting how my bowl sizes have changed. I used to use a bigger bowl for ice creams and deserts, but now that I weigh my portions my ice cream fits just fine in a smaller desert dish.

    So agree with this.

Yup, that's kind of how I felt about this the first time I read it (it's been around a while). I weigh all my food as it goes on my plate, and from there it goes in my belly! If I was just loading my plate up though, I can totally see how a smaller plate would work, and it could be a good idea to keep in mind when you don't have access to a scale (thinking BBQ, buffet etc)

Well thought out. I'll remember this, especially for restaurant food. They always have those little plates for the bread (upon which I do not indulge), so maybe I could swap out or just slide off the portion I intend to eat. It's probably more accurate that way than finding the database entry for it and saying "half a plate". Plus people have been known to be better at guesstimating the correct weight of smaller items than of larger ones.

Many times if clients I have complain about calorie counting, the easiest remedy I have for them is to just use a 9" plate to eat off of and don't go back for 2nds. It's helped a lot of them who were obese because they didn't feel they were over restrictive in choices, but understood portion control mattered.

I've also found that my dish choice has changed now that I weigh stuff.
