I have the Nexplanon implant and am currently on week 4 (yes 4!) of my period. I am so sick of this! I feel like it could possibly be hindering my weight loss? I'm eating 1200 calories (using scale) and exercising 7 days a week (cardio and some weight training) and I'm barely losing 2 lbs/week. I know that 2lbs. is considered the high end of normal for weight loss, but I am obese at 171 and 4'11". I just feel like maybe I'm retaining water or something? I don't know. This week (ends on Thursday for me) I've only lost about 1 lb. I know that I am going in a calorie deficit. I'm just totally shocked that with this much extra fat, it's not coming off faster. Could being on my period for this long affect my weight loss short term? Anyone else dealt with this?

I have not had a period or cravings and have had mind almost a year. My doctor said about 1/3 of women will experience chronic bleeding so I highly suggest you contact their office. She said they can add a mini pill to help stop it if that occurs or take it out. I was not in that camp so never looked into it more than that. You are losing 2 lbs a week though that's the upper limit so I don't see how it's hindering your weight loss. The iron loss will eventually catch up with you though.

Two pounds a week is cause for celebration. Truly, even at your height/weight it's a fantastic amount to be losing.

As far as the Nexplanon and bleeding, I would definitely talk to the doctor about it. It may not be the right combo of hormones for you. (FWIW, I don't think 4 weeks of bleeding would affect your weight loss in the way you are thinking, unless it leads to iron deficiency, causing less energy and possibly increased hunger ... if you're still measuring everything and exercising the same, then it isn't that)
