Going from 1.5 lbs a week to 1 lb a week?

I am currently at 190 pounds with a goal weight of 138 lbs. I saw on another post that a good weekly goal is 1% of your current weight. Right now I have my calorie goals for a 1.5 lb weekly loss which gives me 1230 daily calories plus my exercise calories. My issue is that as I a get closer to goal, don't I have to reduce my weekly loss goal? Won't that increase my calories? Will I still lose if my calorie allotment goes up as I get closer to goal? I'm trying to make sure I'm explaining it well. For example, if I get 1230 calories now at 190 but when I'm at 150 lbs and I have to reduce my weekly goal so my daily calories are at 1300 (maybe), will I still lose even though my body may be used to lesser calories? It's a long winded question, I know, sorry! Just trying to make sure I explain it well enough. Thanks in advance for any help!

As long as you are still consuming fewer calories than you burn or expend, yes, you should continue to lose--but at a lower rate.

As already stated, if you are still in a daily deficit you will continue to lose. The idea between slowly increasing calories as you get closer to goal, and slowing the loss is in part to help you adjust to what you will be doing in maintenance. It's about setting yourself up for long term maintenance which (if my yo-yo history is any indication) is more difficult than losing.

    I hope that helps!

Yes, you will still lose, so long as you remain in a deficit.

You will still lose weight. Your calories seem low. Did you select sedentary? If you become more active, that will help offset the calorie increase.

I noticed that although I didn't change the settings on MFP, my body wants/needs more calories as I get closer to goal. So I'm just not able to eat as few calories as before. You may or may not get to that point too, but I'd let your body guide you. Stay comfortable while still staying in a deficit.

I'm 7 lbs away from my goal, and it's really tough. I have to trim calories off a very low amount, intensify my exercise, increase the number of days exercising.......and still, the weight loss is unbearably slow. But whatcha gonna do.

I'm just glad I got to this point relatively fast. I'd have quit if it had been this hard all along.

Sorry, everyone, I wasn't getting the alert that more people had replied. Yes, I currently am in month 2 on Insanity Max 30. I use my polar ft4 to get my exercise calories. So I end up eating my 1230 + my exercise calories...I normally burn about 350-450 per workout which I mostly eat back.

Sorry hit reply too soon! So yes, I did select sedentary because I work from home and spend most of my work day in a chair. I do some moving around while parenting my children after school but I didn't know if it was enough to change my activity level. I just make she I log my exercise calories. And while I'm at the 1230, it's a must that I eat most if not all of my exercise calories or I'd be starving. Thanks everyone for your responses!

Actually, as you get closer to goal and readjust your loss rate, you probably won't get that many more calories added because you weigh less and having less body weight to sustain requires less calories. (Also, if you adjust your settings in your HRM to reflect your new weight you will notice that you burn slightly fewer calories for the same workout, too.)

As you get smaller, your body will use less energy. So if right now you're eating 1230 for a 750/day deficit, as you lose weight the deficit will get smaller if you eat at the same level. Choices are a) workout more to burn more b) eat less or c) accept a smaller deficit or d) some combination of a-b-c.
