Water and Running

Hello All,
I run between 2-3 miles around 5 times a week. I run first thing in the morning - as soon as I get up, I am dressed and out of the door. I have never eaten before working out and couldn't stomach the thought of doing so, however, I was wondering if ensuring that I have some water before I go out or during my run would improve my performance at all?? As I say, it is normally straight up and out.
I run at around a 11.5 minute mile, which isn't too bad (I'm 237lbs at 5ft 11) but would like to try and get up to around an 11 or 10.5 minute mile
Thank you in advance for your help

The first thing I do every morning when I wake up is drink a glass of water. We lose a lot of hydration during our sleep, especially in the winter. Will it have any effect on your performance? I guess that depends on if you are de-hydrated or not. It certainly doesn't hurt to drink some water before you head out. For 2-3 miles, I would not think it would be necessary to drink it during your run though.0

I am up and working out most mornings by 5:15am. I don't eat first either. For short runs 2-3 miles I don't need water during them.
On those days I'm feeling a bit sluggish as the alarms goes off @ 4:55am, I may have a tiny bit of juice for little pick-me-up....which is completely not based on science, just that I feel a bit better with the juice than without.0 -
I do the same. Up and out and going for it.
I sleep with my water bottle by my bed, so if I get thirsty overnight I can have some water. And then also I try to chug a little down before I go run.
Luckily I'm on a treadmill so if I need water I can just grab it. I don't typically stop though.0 -
Personal preference. I like having about 8 - 10 oz of water or cold coffee but it probably won't make a big difference in your running if you do or don't have water before.0

I typically don't eat or drink before my workout. Just make sure you are staying hydrated throughout the day.0
