I agree.. I just sat this morning listening and reading several different studies on probiotics. I have decided to use a product called PB Assist + from doTERRA. I am anxious to see how using a probiotic can help get my leaky gut back into shape. As I am just starting out also, I am looking forward to hearing what others have to say..0

Yes, because at least anecdotally, it seems to help my digestion. I also more easily digest thickened milks. I eat Greek yogurt and drink Kefir.
In yogurt:
Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum - Canadian Living magazine
In Kefir:

If yogurt counts as "taking a probiotic" then my answer is Yes, I do take them. Not every day though.

A study recently published in Food Microbiology1 isolated bacteria from red wine to test them for probiotic qualities. Specifically, these were 11 strains of LAB belonging to Pediococcus pentosaceus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus plantarum and O.oeni.0 -
Big thumbs up on probiotics. I have ulcerative colitis and the last time I took antibiotics I ended up with c diff. I started taking probiotics to help heal and had to take antibiotics again recently and this time...no c diff (which, once you've had, is more susceptible to coming back).

As someone who has lived with ulcerative colitis and proctitis for almost 10 years, I am well-versed in probiotics and take them every day. NEVER purchase probiotics that are being sold on the grocery store/pharmacy shelves. Most of the time, the good bacteria are not present. Who knows how long that stuff has been sitting around?
One of my high school neighbors did an involved study on probiotics for her Biology II class. She tested many probiotics both refrigerated and shelf-stable as well as prescription probiotics. Most of the standard ones you buy at CVS, WAlgreens, etc. were crap and did not have the millions of bacteria that the packaging claimed to have. The top brands that produced the best results were Dr. Mercolas's Complete Probiotics, Garden of Life RAW Probiotics and the VSL3 brand. I myself use the Garden of Life brand that has 32 strains of bacteria at half a billion count.
I have finally gotten the courage to make my own kombucha and my mother in law supplies me with fermented pickles and kefir made from raw milk which I then use to make ranch dip and salad dressing. (I cannot drink that stuff straight). The fermented foods have great probiotics.0 -
I love probiotics, I notice my sick days are miniscule and if I do get them, the duration is shorter and my digestion keeps strong. Not only that but a minor change with my stubborn scale. i use the 50 billion fitbiotic packets by Garden of Life dr formulated. Thats my only fav.0

How did the kombucha turn out? I've been toying with the idea of making it myself but haven't made the jump to invest in a SCOOBY yet.0 -
i started taking one about five weeks ago (as recommended by my coach) that i got from vitacost.com (their brand).. definitely has helped my digestion.0

Actually, it has been turning out quite well. My hubby experiments with different flavored organic juices we add to the "brew" (as I call it) as well as experiment with flavored herbal teas. Our favorites include using flavored peach tea bags (have to use more than the recipe calls for to get the flavor) during the "brewing" process. And at the end of the process, you can choose to drink the kombucha as is or add a little juice. When we add the juice for flavor, we have tried grape juice, pear juice, apple cider, blueberry and pomegranate. The best flavors were the grape and apple cider.
Interesting observation: We get our kids to drink a little each day and have noticed that my youngest son at 13 years of age has the strongest reaction to it. It is almost like the kombucha "detoxifies" his body because the first few days he drank it, his breath and body odor were pretty bad. However, after a few days, that all cleared up and the acne on his back (which he was getting treated for) started to clear up too! For me, it is just another drink option and a great fizz alternative to soda. Since I eat pretty cleanly anyway and have been taking probiotics for years, I did not receive any "detoxifying" reactions that others might.0
