I'm Julianna. My starting weight is 160, and it's the heaviest I've ever been. My goal weight is 125 because I have a pretty small frame and I'm 5'5".
I want/need to lose weight a) to be healthy and b) because I'm getting married next September. I can't handle the idea of having the pictures we look back on be of me at my heaviest and unhappiest on what is supposed to be the happiest day of my life.
I've tried and failed about a thousand times to do this, and I know what I need to do, it's just so hard. I feel overwhelmed and stressed and scared of failure.
Do you have any advice to get started and to keep going? I'm looking for any support I can get.
Thanks!

Hi Juliana, congrats on your engagement! I hear where you are coming from infact in some of my wedding pictures I noticed how much weight I actually had put on and it bothers me. One thing I do to motivate me (on the weeks i actually do good) is put pictures and reminders everywhere I go/see so on my phone, my desktop, etc. So I have reminders through out the weeks/days to keep me in check. It also might be helpful to have a buddy, to kinda help motivate or do it along with you.

Add me as a friend! Anytime you need support reach out, I lost 100lbs then gained half of it back, just now starting again for the last time
I've learned a lot and try to keep positive even when things get tough :)

Feel free to add me for support. YOU CAN DO THIS! The pictures are a great tool - visualizing yourself in the body you want is key. I'm happy to chat anytime. I lost over 40 lbs last year and am working on my last 18 lbs. Cheers!

Count your calories. Many people find that a food scale is helpful for them to get the best estimate on what they're eating.

Exercise. Find some activity you enjoy (or a few) and do it. Try to get some kind of exercise in every day.

Lift some weights. If you cannot afford to pay for it, do bodyweight stuff.

If you diet and exercise, you will lose your weight! :)

Hi Kalikel! I am pretty much at exactly the same place you are. I lost almost 40 lbs after college. Kept it off for years until I hit my late thirties. Lots of traveling (fun), and slowing/aging metabolism (not so fun) threw me off! I have always worked out, so i'm reasonably fit. But I just can't ignore the ever tightening jeans anymore. Annoying to be here again, but at least I know I can do it..and so. can. you.

From my past experience, tracking is key. So we're already in a good spot with MFP. I also ran out and bought a fitbit to make it super accurate and fun. And support!! That's why I'm jumping in here, and I have some private groups going on on FB, too.

You can do it, Kalikel. I know it..because I will, too. Feel free to add me if you need support :-)

    Go get it, girl!

    xo,

In addition to the advice above, don't put do much pressure on yourself. Your weight will not ruin your wedding day because it is about your love and commitment, not your weight. You will have a lovely day and happy memories, regardless.

That said, losing 45 lbs is realistic for 1 year. If you don't make it that far, you'll still look & feel much better than today. Break it into mini goals of 5-10 lbs then take it one day at s time.

No need to stress or worry. Set a safe and reasonable goal and go for it. Worst case you will probably still drop weight and not meet goal. That's better than never starting.

OP, don't try to do too much all at once. Make it as simple as possible so it's not overwhelming. Set your goal to 1lb per week, buy a food scale if you haven't already, and start accurately & consistently logging everything. Once you do this for a week or so, look back at your log and see what you are doing well and where your problems are and make small tweaks as you go. You have plenty of time, even if it takes a few weeks to figure everything out and get going. Good luck!
