Post-Knee Surgery and Flabby abs

I have been doing Pilates on and off for the past 10 years or so with excellent results. Anyway, I had a massive injury to my right knee over the summer and had to have pretty major knee surgery in August. I was on crutches for about 9 weeks :(

I go to physical therapy 2 times a week and it's all leg work (since my knee has been a bit stronger, they introduced a 10 minute warm up with the bike, elliptical or treadmill). I absolutely cannot do anything high-impact and no lunges or squats.

Since the injury, my tummy has gotten a bit wobbly. I know there is no such thing as spot-training/spot reducing. But since I have leg work twice a week for an hour a clip, would I be able to do a bit of ab work at home and actually get results?

I plan on bringing a print-out of the ab work I'd like to try to my physical therapist next week, but I don't want to bother if it would be pointless.

I used to have great abs and I totally miss them :( I'll be rehabbing my knee at least for another 3 months.

I'd appreciate anyone's helpful advice.

Thanks!

I had ACL construction a couple of years ago. My husband bought some boxing gloves And pads and I did some seated boxing exercises with him. Great for core, cardio and shoulders too. Of course, best if you have a buddy but otherwise even controlled work on your own has a great effect.

Fab for the frustration of being less than mobile too!!

    Good luck!

Thanks for responding! Boxing sounds like fun but I don't have anyone to spar with...although I have quite a few ex-boyfriends I wouldn't mind punching!!

Search "upper body boxing workout" on YouTube. There's plenty you can do alone.

You can still imagine you're aiming at ex boyfriend..... Even if he is nowhere near! (my ex husband's head is my target at bodycombat....!!)

I'm currently rehabbing from ACL reconstruction on left knee. My therapist told me to go to a gym and do core and upper body exercises but nothing relating to legs, and I am allowed to do elliptical every day. So I'm working everything except my right leg. It was feeling abandoned, so I let it do leg lifts with ankle weights.

Thanks! I don't belong to a gym, but knowing that your therapist said it was OK to do upper body and core gives me hope :)
