Water weight loss after exercise

So I was super excited this morning. I started my weight loss journey on September 1st (started account here in October ) at 222lbs. This morning I weighed in at 205. I was super excited because I didn't expect that. Anyway long story short...after a few Google searches it seems as if it's a bad idea to weigh yourself after an intense workout and shower. Found out you can lose up to 3lbs in water weight alone right after a workout. Is this indeed true? I got on the scale since then and sure enough I weigh 206.8 . It's not food content as I haven't eaten anything but a couple pieces of fruit ( about to eat lunch now). If it is true then what is the best time to weigh yourself in order to get the most accurate reading? Thanks

Actually, it's quite the opposite. IMMEDIATELY after an intense workout perhaps you
might lose some water weigh in the form of sweat, but usually, when you've really worked it, you're going to GAIN water weight (like the next day or so from the work out) because your muscles need it to regenerate and regrow(totally normal process of muscle building). So I'd say it's much wiser to weigh in about a week after starting an intense workout. As a woman, you're going to experience water weight gains all month anyway (guys do to, just not quite as MUCH as us). So don't worry about 1-5 lbs either way. No matter when or how often you weigh in, what you want to look for is a steady downward trend OVERALL. So losing several lbs a month or whatever you set your weekly loss goal to. Weight loss is not determined by the day to day, it is won and lost on the battlefield of MONTHS, so that's what you need to pay attention to. Notice if you ever read the posts on here, no one will say anything other than "wait" if you report a plateau less than 6 weeks long and logging isn't an issue. That's why.

The best time to weigh yourself is when conditions will be as similar as possible. I get up, pee, get undressed, and weigh myself.

Check out this video on how your weight fluctuates throughout the day.

Yah your weight is going to fluctuate throughout the day no matter what. Just weigh yourself at the same time everyday, under similar conditions as @kshama2001 said. I weigh myself first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom too. I've weighed myself at the end of the day just to see the difference and it is usually 5-8 lbs higher!! Then next morning it's back down.
  • Ok thank you. I won't worry about any 1-5lbs variance as long as the overall trend is downward.

That's a great point. The trend keeps moving lower means you're in a good place. My weight jumps up and down but I only watch my trend line. I use a cool app to track.
