A Good or Bad Thing

An interesting conversation was had about me yesterday.

Apparently, one of the guys at work was talking to my friend about ideas as to who to set his nephew up with. My friend, being always in favor of me, suggested me. The guys response (among other things) was: she has been losing weight lately. I'm not sure if I'm happy that I noticed, or sad because it just confirms those feelings that I'll never meet anyone until I'm smaller. I'm trying not to focus on those negative feelings, but am not sure that I'm being successful.

Am I just being neurotic and need to stop beating myself up?

As someone else who has quite a bit to lose and has lost a little so far... I definitely feel where you're coming from. I just got out of a long-term relationship and I often think that I'll never meet someone special until I'm thinner. But that's not true!

I spin it into a positive... Being overweight is weeding out all the jerks that care more about looks than anything else. I would rather someone love me for me, and if they aren't willing to ride alongside me while I get healthier then they aren't worth MY time. The same goes for you!

As for the guy's response about you losing weight.. I would take it in context. Perhaps he mentioned it because it shows you are focusing on getting healthier, dedicated to bettering yourself. If that was his meaning, then that's surely a compliment! When others notice that my new lifestyle has been improving ME, it makes me smile because not only do I know that what I'm doing is working, but others are also noticing.

If the guy's comment was derogatory, in the sense that you wouldn't be worth introducing to his nephew before but now that you're losing weight you might be... Well, screw that guy! He's the kind of person that I don't like associating myself with because he can't see the value of the book behind the cover. And you should NOT beat yourself up over his comment if this was his meaning behind it. It shows more about him and his flaws than it does about your's... You're IMPROVING and he's obviously not!

TLDR: Don't beat yourself up either way. We'll find the right people for us, no matter what size we are. Your 46 pound loss is something to be proud of!
