I'm trying to lose a lb a week at the moment, mfp has given me just short of 1300 cals a day which I thought was quite low, I'm 5.5" and weight 9st4. I can go with that but not sure if I'm meant to then eat my exercise cals, it seems pointless exercising to lose weight then eating back?

Exercise is for health. Calorie deficit for weight loss.

If it was me, I'd "eat back" half of my exercise calories with those stats.

Many people here believe/advocate eating back about 50% of your exercise calories under the theory that the stated calorie burn for exercise is overstated. This may be true. My experience, however, has been that if i eat back 50% of those exercise calories I lose weight faster than the 1 pound a week I was targeting. Either the calorie burn for exercise is more accurate than believed, the calorie burn ismore accurate for ME, I am more accurate in logging the correct calorie intake or I'm real lucky.

Start off eating at least 50% of your exercise calories and check your weight, adjusting accordingly. Your scale will tell you if you are eating enough, eating too little or eating too much.
