Pinched Nerve, Now What?

For about 4-5 months I have been incorporating diet/cardio/weights into my weekly routine. Lately my distance in running as well as my speed has been increasing because I dont have as much weight baring down on me. But two days ago after a 45min run I felt a pain in my knee just below the knee there was a bump as well. I went to bed that night and when I woke up there was also a really uncomfortable pain in my back, if I touch the spot on my lower back to message it, I want to cry.

My mom says its a pinched nerve, is this common from running? How long does it typically last, can I continue to run? I would hate to stop now that I am seeing so much progress. Also do you know any at home remedies that might help to get rid of it?

Start with getting a proper diagnosis from a medical professional - not well meaning family.

Well, if it IS something pressing on a nerve, which I don't think you should necessarily conclude immediately, then usually what happens next is a course of muscle relaxants and rest, and that could be for weeks or, worst case scenario, months. But its best to see a doctor if at all possible, to see if there is some issue with your spine (or your knee, as a separate issue), and if for some reason its not possible, then at the very least you should stop running until the pain goes away. I'm sorry, but if you don't rest, you could make it alot worse. But find out what it really is so you know best how to treat it.

Sounds more like Osgood-Schlatter disease than a pinched nerve. Go see a doctor.

It could be sciatica which may be indicative of something more serious (I am presuming the pain is radiating down the back of the leg rather than the front.

I would suggest seeing a doctor as well for peace of mind.
