I am a newbie and all this information, calculation and counting feels overwhelming! I am also a part of a research group at work in which we were given fitbits which I thought was a great thing but I feel that it has added to the feeling of being overwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, I have lost 11 pounds and now walking/exercising so I am making progress but I have no idea what my goal is and if I am eating enough or too much. But I sure am hungry!

I have my fitbit synced with MFP. I did the TDEE calculator, looked at net calorie reports, examined other reports, look at the fitbit dashboard each day (always in the yellow???) and try to estimate how far MFP is off on the calories burned.....and the list goes on and on.

Everyday I wonder...am I getting any of this right? Should I be this hungry? Did I eat too much? Is this even worth it all the stress?

Yikes! I am in a daily tailspin.

I usually recommend for people starting out, to follow the KISS rule, keep it simple, s... :D

Run your numbers on MFP, set yourself for a reasonable goal (no more than 1.5 lbs per week if you have 50 to lose). Make sure your activity level is set correctly (tip: don't include planned exercise, and most people are sedentary!) http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10257474/starting-out-restarting-basics-inside#latest

If you're that hungry, how many calories per day are you averaging, and what are your stats? You shouldn't be starving.

I would also like to suggest you get at least 25 grams of fiber from food sources rather than supplements to help with satiety. Black Beans, kidney beans and other legumes are a great source of fiber and iron

"The DRI for fiber for men and women through the age of 50 is 38 grams and 25 grams per day, respectively, while men and women over the age of 50 should reduce their daily fiber intake to 30 grams and 21 grams, respectively." From http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/recommended-daily-serving-fiber-4262.html

It's easy to get overwhelmed especially with all the abbreviations, lingo, and formulas. I figure I will start off just worrying about the basics and increase my education and goals as I go along. Good luck!

Congrats on your weight loss. You are doing well.
Ignore the reports and much of the other stuff for now. Eat the number of calories that MFP calculated when you set up your account.
Change your settings to lose one pound a week if want to increase calories so that you can eat a little more.

Start slow. You'll learn as you go. I would suggest trying a little more protein & healthy fat. If your weight loss pace is very aggressive, consider a slower pace of loss for more comfort.
