Hi, I am 56 years old and have been dieting on and off since my child bearing years. I have reached a plateau and cannot seem to get the weight off. It used to be so easy to drop 10 lbs. Now I can't get past 5 lbs. I am ready to seriously start working but I need help. If anyone is out there that can offer advise, I am open to it.
Thanks, Lisa

Hi, I am the same age as you. It does take a little longer to drop the pounds as we age, but the same rules apply. Eat a little less than you have before. Exercise helps moderate everything.

First STOP using the word diet. Let's call it maintaining health and wellness. I am the same age and have noticed the same challenges. I now workout everyday, yes everyday. I have been using Leslie Samson's walking DVD's and my treadmill for workouts. 30-45 min/daily, religiously. Once a week I take a 3mile walk outside usually on the weekend when I have more time. I log my food almost everyday. I might skip a weekend day when I still monitor what I eat. I have cut my alcohol intake down to one day on the weekend. I started this 10/26/15 and have noticed a tremendous change in the way I feel. My clothes are fitting better. Well, I wish you success. B)

I am 49 and to was tired being overweight but until I couldn't reach things on the floor or tie my shoes properly or do other things properly or even ...let's say see things like my feet I decided enough was enough and make one very simple decision that every thing hinged on.... get up and move my body ..so I decided that it's now or never and i do very much agree with the above comment it's not dieting really it's more of a life style because in my mind dieting is a temporary state of eating when truthfully it's a permenant change of thinking so I simply started walking I couldn't believe it it .I walked every other then day then I noticed I was going every day to do it because I enjoyed the feeling of being outdoors and the desire to do to more things came natural after awhile .don't get me wrong it wasnt easy there were PLENTY of days where I straight up did not want to do anything g so I didn't but I also noticed that by earning the weight loss that I just naturaly started eating better and most important I think, I was tracking what I ate and i mean everything. so 69 pounds lost latter I can say it is possible to do it without buying all these weight loss things or doing anything other then just getting up with no excuse ever .I personally have to do it at 5 Am which the upside is I get to watch the sunrise everyday which brings up a good point 5 am you say no way well its a change in thinking to find the good in as much as you can i love sunrises now i can see allo more of them and so far tjeyre unbeliecable and i see them every day or almost everyday .lol. but my new fear is winter is coming so cross your fingers and wish me luck to get through the winter .

Good points @jimr545454 . My early morning runs are getting me in to star gazing. Right now Venus, Mars, and Jupiter are pretty well lined up in a neat little row.

In the same boat - 59 here ... cut down on carbs and portion control. Walking a lot ... although the ol' plantar fasciitis is rearing it's ugly head. Very painful. Going to orthopedic on Friday to get some relief.

I am committing myself once again to shed 20 lb. How do I get into an accountability group?
