Righto I've been lifting for about 7 months and am currently doing a full-body routine twice a week. It's only twice a week at the moment because I play Australian Rules Football (full contact) which is really hard on my body. I generally have a lot of niggles to work around (knee and shoulder - both manageable) and plenty of DOMS which restricts what I can do and when I can do it.
My week looks a bit like this:
Monday: Football training
Tuesday: Weights (squats, straight leg deadlifts, bent over row, pull-ups and bench press)
Wednesday: Football training
Thursday: Weights (deadlifts, walking lunges lunges, weighted hip bridge, dips, upright row, OHP)
Friday: rest
Saturday/Sunday: game day/rest
I've been managing to make strength gains while only lifting twice a week (sometimes only once if I pull up badly from a game)
I can squat 67.5kgs, deadlift 85kgs, bench press 47.5kgs (for 6-8 reps) and do 2 pull-ups unassisted
Football season lasts another 6-8 weeks, so my questions are:
1. Anything I could be doing differently now during the season?
2. What kind of program should I be looking at for the off-season? I'm thinking I'll be able to lift 3-4 times a week. So full body or a split?
Thanks in adavance
