Are you eating enough? Because if you're starving yourself, you can't find energy that isn't there.

Like Nike says "Just do it!". It's odd but if you force yourself to exercise and do the things you need to do, even when you don't feel like it, you will eventually build up your energy. If working out is "what needs to be done", start small and build up. Don't jump right into training for a marathon, start with a 20 minute walk and gradually add time and pick up the pace. Good luck!

This. You aren't eating enough thus feeling lethargic. To sustain your workouts eat a bit more on your workout days.
  • Thanks everyone...I thought I was eating enough maybe just the wrong things

The one thing that really gets me to the gym every time is my preworkout supplement. The caffeine boost and the tingling from beta alanine have become a ritual before working out. I know no matter how tired I feel or how little sleep I have, once I get my preworkout in, I'll be ready to go to the gym.

When I'm feeling blah, I toss in a little extra protein. It always helps me keep my energy up a little longer. I usually go for hard boiled eggs, hummus, roasted chickpeas, sliced deli turkey, something like that. Absolutely make sure you're eating enough! that seems to be the biggest mental hurdle most people face.

Also! Drink a big bottle of water. It helps oxygenate your brain and with general hydration. That always perks me up too.

I always watch youtube motivation! Also, you should write down why you want to lose weight, and put it up so that you see it daily

Well, eating the wrong things could be a factor, but we haven't any way to make suggestions since your diary isn't open. (That's fine; I'm not pushing you to open it.) I've certainly found that while in calorie deficit it's even more important to get fruits, veg, plenty of protein, healthy fats, enough water, etc., to feel the best possible.

Another thing that I've found affects me is timing of food/nutrients. This seems to be a very individual thing, so experimenting is good. (I'm talking about whether you eat a big breakfast and smaller lunch/dinner or vice versa, 3 meals vs. 5 meals vs. 3 meals with snacks between; distribution of protein/carbs/fats across the day and with respect to workouts - that sort of thing. Consider trying some variations.)

For me, it's essential that I get a good jolt of protein at breakfast, or I fade later in the day (and even seem more likely to crave unhealthy snacks); that I get enough water (especially around workouts).

Finally, I know that some people choose to eat back zero of their exercise calories, going for faster weight loss. If I do this, I absolutely crash and burn big time (but I'm old). So I've focused on estimating exercise as accurately as possible, eating back most of those calories, logging food/exercise carefully, and then I can compare my loss rate with my eating/exercise and see whether I'm on point with the healthy loss rate I want, and adjust calories if I'm losing too fast or too slowly.

Hope you can find a solution: Keeping that energy level adequate is part of the sustainability factor!
  • So helpful really thanks everyone

You might want to make sure you aren't deficient in Vitamin D or sleep. Thyroid okay?
  • my Dr says my thyroid is dying but not to the point of medication yet...could that b a factor

Sounds very possible. Does your doctor have a plan in place to monitor your thyroid hormone levels regularly, so that you get medicated when you need to be? Might be time for a second opinion, too . . . .

Sounds counterintuitive, but brisk exercise always gives me more energy when I'm feeling dull & stagnant.
