Calories in drinks vs food

Maybe a silly question to some, but, how (if so) do calories from food versus drinks, affect the body.
So for instant, 500 calories of alcohol versus food.
Or, 500 calories of pop versus a meal.

Other than the feeling of being full, how else does it effect the body? Am I more likely to hold on to calories from drinks than I am for food? Is it purely a nutrition thing? I know pop/diet soda etc is bad (well, kind of). I'm not too bothered about that just curious of the outcome not the nutrition from it.

So 1500 cals of food vs 1500 cals of drinks.

In terms of weight loss only, please? Curiosity

A calorie is just a unit to measure energy content. So a calorie is a calorie in terms of energy usage.

So basically calories from drinks count just the same as calories from food. Which is why most people try not to drink their calories as it were as they'd rather have something they can chew and help them feel fuller.

    No

I know pop/diet soda etc is bad (well, kind of).

It's not bad, it just happens to be devoid of any micronutrition AKA vitamins and minerals. As long as you reach your micronutrient requirements with the rest of your consumption throughout the day, and stick to calorie and macro goals, soda can be perfectly healthy for you.

So 1500 cals of food vs 1500 cals of drinks.

In terms of weight loss, they will have the EXACT same effect on your body.

    a calorie is a unit of energy...as energy goes, 500 units = 500 units

I don't think it really any different except maybe the juice and pops which don't come with fibre or protein to slow the sugar rush.

I tend to drink a LOT of my calories. Probably 300-600 kcal per day in bulletproof coffee and soup (mainly fats). I like that I can sip them, they travel with me and it's warming (it's COLD outside - bah, snow).

I go with what helps me feel full and stick to my calorie and nutrition macros. Drinking my calories leaves me feeling hungrier (less satiated) and I find it harder to stick to my calorie and nutrition goals. I do best (for me) eating/chewing food and drinking water.
