OK after 3 months on this low fat, low cholesterol diet had my second blood work done..got the results today but am confused.

Triglycerides were 185.. NOW 146 ( Dr says thats great!)
Cholesterol was 230 Now 203 ( Dr Wants it under 200 )

HDL which is the good cholesterol went DOWN :(
LDL ( bad ones went down a bit from 146 to 137

What else can I possibly cut out??? AIR???
So he told me to take another Omega Fish Oil Pill at night..I already take 1000 mg in the morning..

Anyone else have any suggestions or have been thru this???

Thanks

exercise also helps your cholesterol. It sounds like you are doing really good with your diet. Throw in a little more exercise, mostly cardio.

I just had good results eating more fresh fruit and vegetables. I also take 2,000 mg of Omega 3 fish oil. My cholesteral went from 224 to 159 from January to June. I also try to walk every day as well. I hope this helps. Good luck.

You can get Cholesterol from your liver and animal products. Take a look at how often you are eating meat and dairy products (even lean meats and dairy), try to cut back to once or twice a day. See if that helps. Good luck! Sounds like you are on the right track.

There are fiber products that are designed to lower cholesterol and raise the good kind, I used to work for a company that sold these and I was taking it aas it also is good for weightloss and balancing blood sugar (family history of diabeties) I would suggest looking into something like this, it can be a great help!

Thank you for the help..Dr did raise my Omega3 Fish Oil caps to 2 a day so i will be taking in 2000 mg per day. And I will Increase cardio/walking :)

I eat red meat ( very lean ) and only 3-4 ounces MAYBE 1 time a week..and my dairy is always Fat Free Cheese and fat Free Cottage Cheese, so should I cut that back too even if its FF ?

    Thanks :)

It sounds like your making progress, your numbers are coming down and it's only been 3 months. So celebrate that victory! You've been given some good suggestions already. My HDL was too low a few years ago and my physician put me on over the counter Niacin. A side effect of Niacin is that it makes a person flush, but there is a brand that is "flush-free" and that's what I took. It did help at that time. I'm not sure if there are any contraindications with your particular medical history. You may want to speak to your MD about it. Good luck!
